What size of club do you class Celtic as?

This really needs to be two polls. As a club (fanbase, prestige, history etc.) we are world class, but in terms of financial clout and league quality we are utter crap. Just about equal in financial power to Burnley before they got promoted

 

Big fish in a very small pond , Just look at our finances

 

Worldwide, everything has to be taken into account. History (we've won the european cup), fantastic players, huge fan base from around the world, we're rich considering we play in Scotland.
Newcastle don't even play in the premiership anymore. They only have a lot of fans as there is no club for miles around.

if you went to brazil and asked joe local who do you know celtic or burnley?
finance would not count. history would excite. dont be too

I don't think budget is what makes a club rank among the worlds greats or not. Boca Jrs I doubt have a budget as big as many clubs in Europe but they just like Celtic for me fit into the bracket of the worlds elite. We have such a great history and heritage and that has built up a special mystique about the club which is intangible but only the worlds greatest clubs have it. Plus of course we have such a massive worldwide fan base and general popular appeal.

I think we are in a similar boat currently to say Ajax who I also consider among the worlds elite in that we are currently struggling to figure out how to compete at the very top level financially and have not managed to do so yet.

no debt, sound financial footing

We are Massive

down side is where we play and until we can negotiate our own tv deal which we then pay our opponents on a game by game basis (which would be more lucrative for the wee hun outfits all over scotland) we are stuck

We are a Big club and up there with the best in terms of tradition, fanbase and history and thats it. In terms of players and staff and all on field matters where probably below your Evertons and the likes

with big aspirations that wont ever materialise while the club is run by the present custodians.
we are like the little train that could.
we got a lot of heart. but the muscle is in disrepair.

we are one of the elite, no one can argue this. I'd say the huns are probably in that upper echelon as well, although we outsize them globally and morally.

The categories are clearly all wrong anyway

Barca, Milan, Celtic and Man utd etc are the top tier

Chelsea, Valencia, Porto, Shaktar etc are next down

Newcastle, Udinese (for the Onion) West ham, Fulham etc on the next level.

Hearts, Hibs, Dundee United, Cardiff, Alaves etc on the next level i'd say

Then Your Dumbartons, East Stirling are even further down.

I'm not sayingmines is perffect but that system would be better

 

Shakhtar are not a big club IMO and tbh we are not in the top tier. We are the same level as Ajax , Bayern , Porto etc..
