i raised the issue on another thread but i want to get everybodys opinion on the way they run the club. Now im sick of the abuse strachan is getting and I firmly believe it is all the boards fault. For too long they have abused the success strachan has brought to the club by using the money made to balance the books and not reinvesting. Strachan wants to sign quality continental players but instead is forced to shop around irish pubs for players. They are the ones responsible for the current state of the team not the manager. However, all the threads posted today will mean nothing if we win the league on sunday. Hail Hail.

If Strachan has severe financial constraints placed upon him then he should come out and say so at least the fans would respect him for being honest instead of being little lap dog

The board has secured our long term financial viability, however, they were wrong to aim for being a debt free club imo.

We don't need to have zero levels of debt we should be operating with a debt level that is sustainable (in the long and short term) for a club our size.

We didn't have to spend 20 million to improve the squad, one or two quality players would have been enough to ensure the title stayed at Parkhead - we might still win the league but it will be due to luck not us earning it.

We should never get ourselves into so much debt that there is a real risk of us not being able to service them but we should be able to maintain a reasonable level of debt.

The board seems to have had the idea that as long as we are good enough to win the league instead of ensuring that we are as good as we can be. I believe we can be a better team than we are if the board would just spend that little bit more.

Although the board can't take all the blame, some of Strachan's signings have to be questioned, the scouting, coaching and management of the team should be questioned and the players themselves have not put in the required effort in many of the games this season.

So is the board responsible for the signing of Lee Naylor?

i agree with that, but they are all interlinked. The board wouldnt put up the funds - cheap (poor) players are signed - a crap team

Lol the managers targets the players, and therefore it is his signings, who he believed were up to the task and clearly are not, its a constant struggle weak in weak out, but I do agree to some part about the board, but strachan shouldnt be accepting that as it makes him look like a cheap manager and yes man in my opinon.

It's great what the board have done getting us financially stable, every one of us would have gave a limb for that not so long ago in the dark days.

Hindsight shows the gambles they have taken have not paid off and that has proved them to be failures, and if they give a * about our club like they say they do they will relax the tight ship they have created with wage structures and lower budgets, because that is the only way a club of our size and stature is going to progress.

*? Naylor was class in his first season, so it was a good signing.

The mistake was made when WGS chose to keep playing him after it became obvious he had lost whatever had made him so good in that first season.

From a business point of view the club's model is perfect. They reduce debt and make an undeniably healthy profit.

But they've forgotten that this is not some every-day business they run. It is a football club. The aim is not to make a profit, it is to win silverware. This is a high-risk enterprise that they will and should make losses on every couple of seasons, if they're taking the footballing aspect seriously enough.

The board are too preoccupied with having a healthy bank balance that they fail to realise that they are strangling the club with their miserly budgets. It is a fact that banks are ridiculously lenient on football clubs when it comes to debt because they realise that it is a high risk enterprise, and that is also a fact the board have failed to capitalise on.

With that quote its proved that strachan is a cheap manager and yes man, anyone could see we needed additions to the team. That shows its not all the boards fault.

Hustzi went to Zenit for 2 * million, I'll never be able to understand why we didn't get him.

Lawell wanted him for free, or for significantly less as he only had 6 months on contract.

Severely lacking in vision, especially as Hutszi said he would like to come to Celtic.

the board are too tight with money however when they do actually manage to sign a player its because the manager has recomended him not because PL fancies him as a player

That just sums up this whole situation and why we've come to be such a * embarrassment. Celtic Football Club are a business first and foremost but for some reason we are expected to just accept it and keep our mouths shut. * watch me.

100% agree about the board. They seem happy to let us tread water with what we have, instead of pushing it that wee bit extra and take the almost certain success that would come with it.

By that I mean, if we'd spent a bit more in the summer or January, we'd have been out of sight, instead we're hoping another team helps us beat a very poor Rangers team to the title. A Rangers team financially in the *.
