I know we have had a few of these stories crop up about the hoops going to play a game in oz but here is another on which sounds promising!!

Roar to face Scottish giants Celtic at Suncorp Stadium

<!-- Split page --><!-- Lead Content Panel -->SCOTTISH giants Celtic are looming as a likely opponent for the soon-to-be Brisbane Roar in what's shaping as a bumper July of international football at Suncorp Stadium.
It can be revealed that Celtic, the current Scottish Premier League champions whose side includes Socceroo striker Scott McDonald, are currently in negotiations with the Roar and Suncorp Stadium management.

The match would be Celtic's only match in Australia during their pre-season tour, with a sellout of the 52,500-seat venue virtually assured as the contest would attract Hoops fans from throughout the nation and potentially Asia.

It is understood a Celtic-Roar clash would be in addition to the annual Roar Against Racism clash, which is this year set to pit the Brisbane side against English Premier League club Fulham on July 12.

The only hurdle potentially standing in the way of Fulham travelling to Queensland will be if the Cottagers finish high enough on the EPL to contest the qualifying stages of the UEFA Europa League, formerly the UEFA Cup.

Fulham's side includes Socceroo goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and is coached by former Inter Milan coach Roy Hodgson.

The Roar are poised to offer a trial to Motherwell utility Robert Malcolm, a former teammate of Craig Moore and Charlie Miller at Rangers.

Malcolm, 28, is comfortable playing in either defence or midfield, and has represented the Scotland B side on three occasions.

He also played for English clubs Derby County and Queens Park Rangers, but has struggled for regular first team football at Motherwell

I'd rather we didn't travel halfway round the world for pre season fixtures, but I understand there is untapped markets in these places. It's just a shame that money overrides proper pre season preperation in these cases.

Same here mate, but as you said it is all the market etc, I would rather we stayed over this way as we awlready have a few tournaments and other games lined up so the last thing you want is for them to start the season absoloutely shattered

I don't know about you bhoys but we down in OZ have never had the hoops come here. If they did, the stadium would be jam packed. The buzz would be brilliant.

Please Gods make it happen...and maybe a second game with Sydney to make a trip worthwhile.

If you're reading this at Parkhead, Celtic have a HUUUUUGGGEEEE following down under...definitly enough to rival the size of any of the Big 4 in England, AC Milan and Real.

But you'd also be moaning if Celtic didnt have the money to spend on players.

Skippy & Naka fly over and back between SPL fixtures without much problems. I dont see much problems with it during preseason time when they have the time to get over and back without fixture congestion.

Exploiting markets and maxmising our marketing potential is a neccessary step if we want to bridge the gap between us and other major european clubs.

Spent a year in Australia myself and I would agree with this man :50:

Celtic toured Australia in 1977...they played at Olympic Park in a 4 team tournament involving Red Star Belgrade, Arsenal and Australian National team. Danny McGrain was part of that Celtic team.

Celtic have thousands upon thousands of fans in Australia and surrounding countries. It is a moral obligation for such a great Club to service as many markets as possible.

There are many thousands of backpackers from Scotland and Ireland also in Australia at anyone time so the attarction to see Celtic down under would be huge.

I really hope this happens as I know Celtic will endear itself to more and more potential fans.

yeah it would be great if they could get it on. There would be a fair few from NZ jumping on some cheap flights as well, i think they would sell the stadium out no probs regardless of the capacity.

I have never had the pleasure of flying first class but they treat you better than the wife does in economy so i can only imagine that it wouldnt be a tiring experience, i know the old jet lag can get you but * that just get down here bhoys, it will be incredible!!!!
