    Just heard.
Just how better would he have been playing in this era with more protection from refs than the legal assault that was prevalent in the 50s and 60s.
We’ll never see the likes again.

    I’m crying and I don’t know why……..

Another part of my youth gone maybe?

Rest in peace Edson Arantes do Nascimento

Brazil 1970, the greatest team in history

The only player to win three World Cups.

And that overhead scissor kick in Escape to Victory with a broken arm! With a team full of diddies like John Wark, Russell Osman and Sylwester Stallone!!!!!!!

My favourite Subutteo team was the original wee crouched heavy leaded Brazil team. And my favourite non Celtic football top back in the day was New York Cosmos!

    Goodbye and farewell Pele

The original greatest of all time.

RIP probably will be the most iconic footballer of all time, regardless of age.

Easy enough to leave him out of the GOAT debate these days with all the Messi v Ronaldo chat, but he really did have everything. Phenomenal player who I'd have accepted as the GOAT even though I preferred Diego, till Messi came along.

Not the time though for daft debates like that, just wanted to acknowledge the fact he was a * whirlwind, and will always be remembered as one of the top 3 of all time, at the very least.

For many he was the greatest, iconic and legendary, when you think of the magic of the World Cup you think of Pele.

    RIP

A giant in world football and the first GOAT that I became familiar with although I was too young to see, but remember my dad talking about him a lot.

    What a legend.

He was doing things with a football that people weren’t doing till 30 years later. Unreal.

    RIP

    Rest in peace.

'Legend' gets thrown around far too often and easily by so many about so many, but there are only a handful whose names outlive their deeds or legacies extend long after their days in the spotlight, but in every way Pele owns all of those plaudits and more. So long as football is played and the discussion of who was or is the greatest, even 100+ years from now, his name will always come up.

So sad to hear of his passing. Even the kids of today scream with excitement to "pack" him in online games.

Another legend in his sport gone.
