Overconfidence = Underinvestment?

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by henriks tongue, Aug 30, 2017.

  1. I really think Celtic, including Brendan, have been caught up in the hype of our 'invincible' season.

The club thought we were good enough for CL.
Now after Rosenburg/Astana we are not so sure and are panicking to get loans over the door.

Asides Ntcham the team is identical to last year - despite +£60M in / going into the coffers.

All the talk was building, improving, getting quality in and competing seriously in CL. That is not what I see.
The lack if ambition is crushingly disappointing Celtic.
    Same old, same old....:31:

  4. BR's main attribute is improving players/team and he's improved this team immenselyWe played our qualifiers up until the last game without conceding a goal without a striker and put together defence. We are never going to be spending massive bucks on well know stars,we'll make our own stars like we've always done.

Could see Brendan getting the sack for the poor start.

  6. Exactly. It's not like we're doing nothing. Signed Ntcham. We tried to sign Paddy permanently. We were on the verge of Coetzee signing but no fault of our own on both and we're clearly still trying to do business and I'm convinced we will..

  7. You've got to admit that there's been some bad luck involved too with Coetzee failing the medical and City refusing us to get Roberts on a permanent.

Wait until this time on Friday and see where we are and by all means rant away if you're still disappointed but at least let the window close first and wait to see what happens.

  8. It wont be a lack of ambition IMO; Brendans said from day 1 that he wont bring anyone in unless its an improvement on what we have. Its a difficult task: we cant compete with money in other countries so in reality its a case of buying from SPL; getting in squad players elsewhere who arnt getting a game at their club or buying relative unknown younger players from abroad.

Just need to "have a little patience"

  13. Would absolutely delighted to be wrong, hard to see it change in 36hrs tho.
I hoped we would be looking to get players like Sinclair, Roberts and Dembele every year- not just a one off then relax.

  14. Absolutely. If we don't do anymore business then I'll revisit this thread with a different tone......probably even out-do the op :56:

  15. Panic? We did brilliantly in the midst of a horrendous injury crisis against a decent team halfway through their season that just put out Ajax and a good team with a very, very good home record.

The team is nothing like the team we had this time last year, there is clear progression, both in getting players in and (just as important) improving the players we have.
Also there is still time left (as others have said).

I don't see the overconfidence. This team is good enough to challenge Anderlecht for 3rd and, unless we are planning to bring Virgil, Vic and Forster home, no conceivable signing is going to make us competitive with PSG and Bayern.

I'm actually really happy with our transfer business so far TBH.

  16. It's not hard though is it? You really believe with all the noises coming out that we're doing nothing?

The thread is premature mate, honestly..

  17. Here you bhoy,

What is vital is a massive vibe that all our fans are right behind the Team, this energy will beam onto the park and back to us.Then when we are still in Europe after Christmas Transfer activity will really pick up,if we get into the CL Last 16 we will shine in the Transfer Market if it is the Europa League there will be some sort of solid ambition.
In the meantime maybe, just maybe Mr Rodgers has a couple of cool tricks up his sleeve in the next 36 hours:84:

  20. Honestly dont understand how with fans if they're not happy now with this squad, can they actually ever be happy with one
