Ko Itakura

Discussion in 'Transfer Rumours' started by AussieGreek, Jun 28, 2021.

  1. Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is considering a move for Manchester city’s Ko Itakura.

The Japan international has had a successful loan spell at Dutch side Groningen over the last 18 months.

The 24-year-old is high on a list of targets on which the the new Celtic boss is currently working.

Postecoglou is also well aware of Itakura from his own time at Japanese side Yokohama F Marinos, who are part of the City Football Group.

Postecoglou is already closing in on a deal for Hajduk Split defender Mario Vuskovic but is still looking to add to his backline options.

Itakura, who has five Japanese caps, can also play as a holding midfielder.

City signed him from J1 League side Kawasaki Frontale in 2019 before they sent him to Holland.

  2. Called this before Ange was named manager hope we get him, can see us making a few signings from City this year (be it loans or permanent)

  3. If we're seriously interested I think we'll get him, we need players in quickly and with our relationship to City I think this could be done quickly.

That is, of course, the case if we're actually interested and this isn't lazy journalism

  4. Looks class in this video

  5. Could be a really good player for us, wonder how much he’d cost and if he’s in England or Netherlands just now, mainly for quarantine reasons.

  6. No feart to put a tackle in

  7. I'd wager around 3 - 5 million, but with our relationship with city I think we could get a good deal for him.

  8. Hopefully, this isn't just paper talk.

If I'm being honest, a maybe a tad too sceptical, it looks like pure bollocks.

    No source given.

DR is the only outlet "reporting" it.

The story also reads like a narrative connect the dots.

Half the text is just explaining HOW Itakura might be linked to us.

That * Burns probably typed "Japanese player. City Group." into a player database, then hacked his hamfistted "report" together and slapped "exclusive" on it.

  12. Dutch journo saying he was the best centre back in the Eredivisie last season.

    This guy looks ideal.

  13. Looks ideal yes.

But pinch of salt with everything these days. I mind some Scottish "journos" sayin Scott McKenna was the best defender in the SPFL at one point.

  14. Looks good in that video. But I'm going on last season abomination, where I'd look class in that defence. But if Ange wants, get him in. Need 2 in this week.

    Looks class

  15. Last defender we signed from Groningen turned out alright. If we can get a good option to buy after the loan, I would be all for this. Year loan with £4m option to buy. I’d be happy with that.

  16. A quick look at the eredivise table last year, only Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord had better defensive records than Groningen. They also finished 7th which is a good finish for them.

  17. YouTube didnae even exist when we signed them.

  19. Reading He's been picked for Japan's Olympic team so if we do sign him he won't come in til much later.
"The competition runs from 21 July – 7 August, meaning the player would not be available to come to Glasgow until after the season has started."
