David Marshall

  1. Is he good enough for a short term deal if we can't get Forster back?

I know it sounds stupid as he came through our youth system but didn’t realise he was a big fan. Very unlucky we happened to get one of the best keepers in the world at the time. Think he would of done solid at Celtic

  2. Im sure he was one of the ball boys behind the goals during the 6-2 game. He celebrates like mad when Henrik chips Klos :57:

  3. Was weird he looked a fantastic prospect when he came into the team but then lost all confidence.

  4. Still remember the Barcelona game where he was outstanding. Not often a 19 year old goalie gets the better of a Barca attack.

  5. That’s mad. Probably watched that goal over 100x but never noticed him haha

  6. Celtic have “considered” a move for their former keeper David Marshall, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claim the Hoops see the Wigan veteran as a potential alternative to Fraser Forster.

As revealed by Record Sport, the club have also held talks with former Manchester City star Joe Hart.

Forster, however, remains boss Neil Lennon’s first choice.

Scotland international Marshall started his career at Parkhead before leaving for Norwich City in 2007.

  7. Looks like we have opted for him

  8. ???

  9. Patience

  10. We need two keepers anyway with Gordon away

  11. For years he was the best keeper I'd seen for us in terms of an individual performance at the time that felt like back to back monstrous performances against barca and deadco.

This season, Forster far far far surpassed that. He'd be an ideal and safe pair of hands as a back up option with Forster being no 1.

    Forster
    Marshall
    Bain

    Wounderful choices.

  12. Wouldn't say no, think he improved greatly after leaving us. If we get FF or Hart then we'll be fine for goalies.

  13. Wigan have entered admin

  14. Happily take him back.

  15. Celtic's bid to seal a return for former star David Marshall has been boosted after crisis-hit Wigan Athletic plunged into administration.

It's understood the 35-year-old is high on former teammate Neil Lennon 's wishlist as the Hoops boss seeks reinforcements between the sticks with further talks with Joe Hart also scheduled.

Celtic have already lost veteran Craig Gordon and Record Sport revealed on Wednesday that any deal for Fraser Forster is now dead in the water.

Marshall has one year remaining on his contract with the Latics but his future is very much in the air with Wigan poised for some major decisions among their playing staff after the shock announcement.

It would be an emotional return to Parkhead for a player who departed in 2007 after losing his place to Artur Boruc following a spell of shaky form towards the end of Martin O'Neill's era.

Marshall became an overnight success story at the age of 19 after his stunning display in the Nou Camp to secure a 0-0 draw with Barcelona and help the Hoops reach the last 16 of the UEFA Cup in 2004.

And he has forged an enviable career south of the border and even kept ex-Hoops keeper Gordon on the sidelines when he established himself as the No1 pick for the Scotland national team.

Wigan are also in danger of relegation from the Championship just now despite their recent run of form.

The club are now subject to a 12 point deduction which would put them bottom of the table, two points behind Luton and four points away from safety.

  16. Definitely wouldn’t be against this as a squad player, but if he’s the alternative to FF then no thanks.

  17. Initial talks have taking place with agent apparently
