agreed. Caldwell isn't a better option anyway.

I dont think he's a good enough player for celtic never mind captain but then there's quite a few of them in this celtic team at the moment e.g naylor, wilson, mcmanus, jvoh, samaras.

The reason we have poorer players now is because of a combination of things e.g the never ending rise in transfer fees and wages the managers poor big transfer dealings and therefore the board not backing him on expensive transfers, rangers have been and are * and ive sure ive heeard the gaffer saying on more than 1 occasion that he believes he's a coach first and foremost and that he believes he can make players better.

Caldwell is much better than when he signed so is mcgeady, hartley and robson i dont think the foreign players have improved though

therefore we are going down the road of getting average players and trying to make them better.

Mcmanus wont get stripped this season of captaincy, or unless something shocking happens this season to Celtic. Im glad to say he is captain although i dont think he is the best of players as he tries to motivate others around him and he does put in alot of good blocks.

By the way last night incase anyone forgot Mcmanus was the only one near Caca as he took that shot, eventhough he never closed him down, either did the others to avoid caca taking the shot.

One of the best defensive midfielders of his generation for Leicester and Celtic. Passing absolutely immaculate, possession play superb and his positioning spot on.

    Why do you ask?

Sadly big Mick is not up to the task of being Captain for Celtic, in my opinion he aunt good enough for Celtic, no where near in the class of Elliott, Stubbs, Reiper, Mjallby or Valgaren.

Caldwell who has had a fine season would be a far better player with a half decent centre back beside him.

captain calamity is the prime example of all thats wrong with celtic.Limited ability no leadership is him in a nutshell .For anyone to watch this guy week in week out and still be of the opinion that he is captain material needs to have there head examined .But alas he is a great wgs man therefor a first pick.

    'McManus turn in your armband.'

what a joke of a thread

its amazing why a captain seems to take the entire blame , football is more than a club captain , football has moved on , its not cricket ffs ,you cant blame the captain

if its for footballing aspects then say so

for me caldwell is * and allways has been ,i just dont bother saying online as i will get * back on here

in reality i havent met a celtic fan who likes or thinks caldwell is a good player

Mc.Manus just looks like a shitebag i don't think he could control a primary 1 class no passison atall whenever you look at him to be honest we would probably be better of without a captain than him, i think the best we could have is Brooney as a captain maybe Boruc if he wasn't off his nut as much :icon_mrgreen:

Mick is an honest lad and seems a nice guy aswell.

Unfortunately he has very limited ability, poor positional sense, and strikers do not fear him.

Never a captain in a million years

i dont blame mcmanus for tuesdays defeat, and i dont always slate him after we lose or get a bad result, even when we win i feel he is not up to the job as a defender let alone the team captain.

McMADNESS sometimes looks like he's not sure where he is or what he's doing and will ocasionally hack down players like we saw in the aab game, in the centre circle when aab posed no threat to give away a free kick.

simple answer i dont think he is good enough all round, but if im honest, i dont rate our back four too highly, loovens? naylor? wilson?

My post has nothing to do with the team winning the league. Your question is loaded.

There was recently a poll on here about the most loyal player and Stephen scored twice the votes of the player in 2nd place, he is the only person worthy of being captain of the club in my opinion.

Because a lot of people believed the same of Lennon with this quote. Ability wise Lennon wasn't the most gifted but he done his job, as i believe McManus has been doing this season. Yes his passing is suspect at times, but there have been times where defenders (Bobo for example) have been urged to do their job, defending, and not to try and play their way out of defense. What's different with Mick?

I just don't rate him as a player, that's all.

I think he's one of the least gifted footballers in our entire first team squad, that's how bad it is. I'm aware of what he brings to the side; heart, commitment etc etc but he's a ball watcher that can't pass. Watch what happens when we have possession at the back and he tries to ping a 50 yard world cup * pass, it skims out of play or an opponent collects it and we're placed under the cosh again. It happened twice against Aalborg that I can remember vividly. Conversely, watch what happens when Caldwell has it and either keeps the ball on the deck or plays dinked balls in to the target man. The difference between the 2 for distribution is night and day.

Nothing to do with the Aalborg game by the way, he can't be held responsible for that but it's just how I rate him. I hope to * i'm proved wrong and he stays captain for a decade and wins everything there is to win with Strachan as his manager but I can't see us making steady progression with a centre half that can't pass a football as captain.

I think McManus is to young to be Captin if hed had 1 or 2 more seasons under his belt I think he would then be ready for it But he is our Captin so id say get behind him 100%

If he does lose the captinsy it will effect his game were top of the league and 4 points clear of the huns if we were in 2nd 20 points behing the huns then we should be raising this conversation
