Jim Craig , Billy McNeil, John Clark , Tommy Gemmell

never seen them play but considering what they did together they have to be the best back four ever

  3. I could only comment on the last 20 or so.

    Agathe, Caldwell, McManus, McNamara

  4. McNamara Caldwell Valgaraan Boyd

  5. Mcgrain Mcneil Aitken Gemmell

That would have been some back 4 and they'd have eaten huns all day long :icon_mrgreen:

  6. :43:

Seriously mate? In the last 20 years? Those 3? Agathe was Ok at tucking in but never an out and out full-back for me.

Similarly, I can only comment on the last 20 years or so.

    I'd go:

Chris Morris, Paul Elliot, Johan Mjalby, Jackie McNamara

  7. Not old enough to remember everyone...

    McGrain..McNeill..Mjallby..Naylor..

  8. McGrain McNeill Stubbs Gemmell

3 of these have to be automatics. Stubbs is controversial I know but when he had a big ball winning centre half beside him(Rieper) he really showed what a good player he was. HAIL HAIL

  9. Mcgrain Elliott McNeill Gemmell

  10. With the utmosr repect to my fellow fans, any Celtic back four that omits the name of George Connolly cannot be called the "best".

George was in a class of his own. look at the sports pages from those days. He was routinely compared to Franz Beckenbauer. He was the complete footballer, years ahead of his time. The ultimate in class and composure

Had it not been for his off the pitch problems he would have rivalled Jinky as the greatest ever Celt. Younger supporters, just ask those old enough to have witnessed George playing.

  11. I havent been a fully commited celtic fan long enough to pass comment on this but i'd say in the last 41 years, the 4 that won us the European Cup.

edit : been a fan all my life but never got right into it till i was like 16 onwards lol.

The way Caldwell has been playing to he will be close to it.

    Mcgrain Mcneill Mjallby Mcnamara

  12. Yeah, I'm going to stand by my choice although Mjallby would be right up there.

Agathe was brilliant especially for the top level and I know he normally played in a 5 at the back but his life saving tackles because of his pace, I very much appreciated.

Elliot from what I remember only played a season or two but was very commanding in the air. Just a shame we didn't really play against top level teams in a regular basis then.

Our two CDs at the moment are as good as I can remember for both Celtic and Scotland. As Willie Miller pointed out last week, they are a great combination and have plenty of years ahead of them.

I liked Chris Morris.:50: Great at going forward. Stubbs was another who I was considering.

Wot no Stubs, he was awsome for celtic. Anton Rogan anyone

  14. Not for me although we've always struggled for left backs. Tosh McKinley was my next in line after Jackie McNamara.

  15. can only comment on players iv seen in the flesh..
lb andy lynch cb roy aitken & paul elliot rb danny mcgrain

  16. I had the great priveledge to see george connolly play ,i idolised him ,dalglish and jimmy ,george connolly was by far the most composed and complete player i have ever seen ,beckenbauer couldnt lace his boots ,but he turned his back on football for personal reasons ,

My back four would be ,

    mcgrain- mcneil -connolly-gemmell

  17. jackie mac - caldwell - rieper - boyd
    from guys i've actually seen

roy aitken would be in ahead of caldwell if i could remember him better, seen him on the tele but can only vaguely remember actually seeing him
