celtic manager the ginger midget gordon strachan has given up the ghost on qualifing for the last 16 of the CL and told the players to concentrate on finishing above aalborg

mcmanus says,,the current players will never be as good as man u,,so does cauldwell

i have this recorded on my sky for proof

    my view,
,although it looks like we are out of the last 16,,we still have 3 games left ,,a possible 10 pts,

so why is he saying we are out of the running /given up on this goal

and as for the players given up as well,,frankly i think its shocking,we are only half way through ffs ,,if we were in the same position with 4 games played i could see his point,,but comon we are half way through with 2 home games and a beatable aalborg

thoughts,,,,,,and remember i have the interviews on tape,so they did say it

I think he is just being realistic to be honest, I know managers shouldn't be giving up already but surely all of us have accepted we are going to the UEFA cup now anyway?

I agree with him though my top priority for us in Europe now is to finish above Aalborg if we do qualify for the last 16 though I will quite happily slam some humble pie down my throat.

i know what your saying but,,what if we all gave up where would that get us,,

im never one for giving up anything in life,,no matter what it is,,when theres hope, theres a chance,,and that chance is still there,,

i can sort of see where he's coming from what with injuries, finances and whatnot. I for one ain't holding out much hope for getting to the last 16 for the 3rd time and tbh the best i think we can do this year is the uefa cup. It's not however the sort of thing you want the players believing. If they go into a game with that mindset then they aren't going to win * all.

He's being realistic & I for one admire his honesty.

All these mental fans, who think Celtic are the best team in the World must do his * in.

I gave up on the CL last 16 in the summer tbh. 7 million does not help you progress in this competition.

we have two home games left, thats 6 points, we also play Aalborg away, IMO, a team we should be *looking* to beat away from home, another 3 points.
    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Thats 9 points on top of the 1 we already have, obviously being 10, more points than we have finished within the last two seasons.

IMO managers and players should not being saying this, they should be fighting till its mathematically impossible, not giving up when the going gets tough.

Extremely disheartening for us fans IMO, and playing for third place is an extremely dangerous thing to do.

I've watched the games and no they were not good.

I was disgusted with the transfer or lack of transfer activity in the summer. It was obvious that the board weren't that bothered about progressing.

The title is the most important thing and they're the games I've been concentrating on this season hoping that we can stay above Rangers.

If the words 'we have given up on qualifying for the next round of the Champions League' come out of Strachan's mouth you're on.

Are we giving up on Fortress Parkhead? Because if we're giving up on that, we might as well stop playing in the Champions League altogether. Like was already said here, we have two home matches remaining, and as good an opportunity as we'll get to win on the road v. Aalborg. Nobody's saying we're a shoe-in to run the table, but our toughest fixtures are behind us. It's not the Celtic way to throw in the towel. Even if we're going down, we should go down swinging. Did we say "UEFA cup here we come" when Shakhtar were seconds away from taking second in the group last year? Don't think so. This is disgraceful!
