look we are an injury ravaged team playing the champions of europe who have a team thats worth probably more than 300 million.

Give the lads applause for the effort get behind the team. If luck went our way it would've been 0-0 at halftime and thats half the battle there.

Also Gary Caldwell, every single tim should stand up and sing his name loud ansd proud. He has proved us all wroung the guy has been immense the only player on the park today with the confidence to step up.

I agree, the drive he's shown after the RB project last year and the criticizm he recieved to get to his form is impressive. We don't know McManus's leading abilities, but if he and Caldwell are of equal influence I'd definitely hand Gary the captain's armband.

Caldwell was immense. ok how?? cuz i watched a totally different game, the game i watched was he was all over the show. each forward pass he made either went out of play or was given str8 to a utd player, when it came to defending he wasnt marking a single player, he was laid astray each time. the only thing he did was have 1 shot on goal lol... oh sorry did this make him hava good game???

and another thing, we are an injury ravaged team?? so are most teams but you hafta get on with it...

Good post mate agree with all that especially about caldwell even with stiches in his foot he can still have a good game, plus missing are best player so far this season samaras didn't help either.

I agree Martin, I was at the Villarreal match also, and it was also a decent performance... When we have or top 2 target men out the picture - no contest-

Its not easy up against the top sides that's for sure. Some "fans" need to realise what its like to be underdog in the "big league" and support the team, just like motherwell etc fans do in the SPL!

The unsurprise has to be based on the financial realities of Scottish football? Villarreal get 29M TV money per year for example, small club , but get a huge head start in wages department. Always gonna be tuff. So there it is, another defeat - but the UEFA cup is our hope now!

Two goals that should have been offside and caught out by a sharp Rooney strike.
I'm not going to lie and say that we deserved to win because we didn't.

Their team had far too much pace for us. Did anyone notice how quickly they got back to defend when we went to the attack?
We really missed Venegoor up front tonight and although I think Strachan used good tactics, we were never going to score without two up front.
McGeady was doubled up on or tripled up on every time he got the ball and McDonald was overpowered whenever he got on the ball.
They showed tonight the difference in class between us and them.
I don't think we were disgraced ourselves tonight but we were a bit out of our depth.

We got done with two offside goals. The third wouldnt have happened imho if we werent two down.
We defended our little hearts out tonight. Just a pity we got robbed.

Caldwell had a good game. Definately our best player out there. He wasn't supposed to be marking a single player he was marking the space he was making vital interceptions and he was our only payer that looked like doing anything. He Actaully stood up and had the confidence to say give me the ball whichis more than you could say for any of our other players.

Naka is a liabilty now a shadow of his former self, he's just not got the physique and the magic seems to be fading. That is my only critism of the team tonight. Naka has the ability to stand out at that stage he just never shows it. Maloneys the way ahead here.

We need another striker in Janaury, definately. Paul Caddis needs a run at Right Back to see if he can solve our problems their because the kid looks genuine class. Sylvinho will do me for left back.

Thats the three things we need to do to have a qaulity team. I was sad to see Crosas out because he gets that extra time on the pass and he gets stuck in as well.

I thought our 3 key players to win this match would be our target man (whether Sammi or Big Jan), Crosas and Caldwell. Looking at Strachans formations thats what he had planned as well, unfortunately our key players were all injured, including Caldwell who deserves all the praise he can get from fickle fans.

Keep your heads up, this was not Inverness Caley Thistle that beat us 3-0, it was Manchester United, Champions of Europe, currently best team in the world and * stinking rich. I'm gutted but roll on 4-in-a-row, most important thing:50:

If celtic had the 3 players who where ruled out before the game tonight playing ,it would have meant that caldwell would have played centre half ,crossas in the middle and sammy or hesselink up front ,thats 4 different moves right away ,probaly more ,but it would have been a different game .

Also naylor ,naylor this naylor that ,one player doesnt * the whole team ,and the word is TEAM ,,they where playing the champs of europe on there own patch ,with celtic minus probaly 3 of the better players in the team ,what do yous want from them ,,theres a saying yous might know it , it goes , we are celtic supporters faithful through and through , some of yous should be ashamed to call yourself celtic men .

Wake up ,we are not a top european team ,but that doesnt mean we cant play with them ,someone said the cost of that front line alone of man utds was probaly 100million quid , has the penny dropped yet ,GS has done well to get us playing at a level ,with no money ,no superstars ,and yet we are playing champs league every year ,do we deserve to ,yes because we won our league and we are champions of scotland ,

The bonus for us over the past 2 seasons is we got to the last 16 ,it doesnt look possible this season ,but ffs look around you ,look at the teams celtic are involved with ,on our budget of fuckall ,i would love to see GS with 50million to see how far we would go then .

outclassed by the worlds best team but proud of players who did their best. Outclassed but I cant point to a failure which is weird. Thought Caldwell was really superb in CM. Two offside goals too. With a bit of luck could have been a lot closer. Thought a lot of players showed a lot of maturity although we were out of our class tonight. Good experiece all the same.

Nobody's saying we should be stealing Fernando Torres in the transfer market.. but I refuse to believe a club of our stature (yes, even playing in a small pond) can't field 11 players with good technical ability. I feel like a side of South American journeymen would have put together a more convincing performance. Real tough to watch. I won't go along with throwing in the towel, this club can do much better.. there's a lot of talent out there. That's all for the foreseeable future!

In the immediate future.. I sure hope we can put in a much better performance for the home leg, play with some confidence, and restore some pride!! :50:

QIA some people really need to realise what we were up against tonight.

No we were not robbed, granted decisions never went our way but even if the goals got disallowed United were still the better team. Tottally outclassed and if you look at the difference in money invested in players that is really the way it should be, money buys class, Celtic breeds spirit unfortunately spirits not came out on top this time.

To put it simply the quality is not there anymore, gone are the days of the suttons, hartsons, larssons, thompsons lamberts and the like. To be honest it was a struggle for me to even pick a player to put on the back of my hoops top because there is no real outstanding quality in the team. I really cant put my finger on what we are doing wrong but in my opinion the right players are not being brought in.
