That's the role Engels played brilliantly with FC Augsburg, and that's why we paid £11M for him. Double pivot.

Rodgers tried to convert him into an attacking midfielder, that's not his game, and he, Rodgers would not play the double pivot in a 4-2-3-1, something we were all screaming at him to do, especially in the Champions League and Hun games.

Anyone that watched his highlights when he signed for us could see what type of player he was, except our 'elite' manager of course who thought he could just slot him into the hole O'Riley left and he'd turn into a top attacking threat for some reason.

Also Kenny looked less isolated. Everyone wins.

    Very good point.

I wonder if Maloney has spotted this immediately.

Maloney probably knew a lot about him from his time with the Belgium management team , would imagine he watched him a fair bit

Very good again. He’s had a lot more good games than bad over the year and a bit. Gets absolutely jumped on when we lose though. Better deeper but can still play more advanced if need be. Comers are deadly too. Him and Sarachi bring much needed aggression.

He's got a bit more aggression in his game now, good to see that.

Scythe a few down, starting on Sunday.

Still think he's *, but at least he ran about a bit tonight. Hope to recoup as much of the £11m as possible and get someone better.

Much better role for him. Lots of his pre-Celtic highlight reel involved him pinging pinpoint balls from deep.

He needs to string a few of those performances in a row now. Not going to get overly excited about Falkirk but it’s a good start!

Would you look at that, we all wanted to see him deeper next to McGregor and as soon as he gets that chance its the best our midfield has looked all season. More of the same please.

As i mentioned before. A real man's performance. Going out using his physicallity.

Who could have guessed he would play at his best when used correctly.

Him and Bernardo both look much better when playing deeper. Playing 4-2-3-1 means we can rotate CalMac, Engles and Bernardo in those spots.

Nygren, Hatate and McCowan for the 10.

I still thought he was poor and he only went deeper when Calmac went off, he gets shoved off the ball too easy and miss times and jump’s recklessly into challenges too often for me so I don’t think this idea of him being a player in a deeper role will work.

With Nygren playing next to the striker it makes it much easier to switch to 4-4-2 if needed as well

These are his defensive stats from the game last night, considering Falkirk had 40% of the ball, this isn't anywhere near good enough, time Bernardo got a run alongside Cal, does the defensive shift so much better than Engels as evidenced in the 3-0 win against the huns last season, last time we beat the huns inside 90 mins, Bernardo started Screenshot_20251030_164946_Samsung Internet.jpg Screenshot_20251030_164952_Samsung Internet.jpg

For sure you would imagine that Maloney does have a good handle on where Engels can be at his best and I agree it is coming from deeper. Think that had a big impact on the team last night.

If he does start I hope he reels in the silly fouls he gives away. That's my biggest gripe with him I think
