I don't get this though. I agree it looks like it's happening, but makes no sense from the club.

Why is it the club only do these punt, project, loan type signings and not just go out and get a ready made player? Even Rodgers himself is asking them to do it

When we are resorting to loans of players who have barely played a first team game for their club then it smacks of us having run out of ideas.

We don't seem to actually have a team who looks after this like most well run clubs. Pretty much all our deals are protracted, Lawwell did the same, Nicholson now seems to do the same, they want to have authority over every single item of an expenditure. Neither or those men should have any say so on what a player is worth, that should be delegated to a football man with a proven track record of identifying talent. If Gronigen wanted £4m for Van Dijk at the time we would never have signed him, if Wanyama's club wanted £2m we'd have walked away most likely. This happened with McGinn, it happened with Toney. We would not pay the fees the clubs wanted which were very fair in the market and both fees we could well afford, the players were keen but Lawwell didn't see them as worth it.

I'm completely against dry loans, we're a club who should be growing and progressing not a club who develops other clubs players for them. Generally the teams who loan players are those ones whose ambition is promotion or mid table safety or surviving relegations. The only other clubs who have to engage in loans are generally the skint ones. We have money hoarded in our bank account we will not part with and have no plan on how to put it to use. Utterly depressing situation. I'm getting serious Covid season vibes already. I've no doubt about it but if Rodgers wins the league this year it will be his finest triumph and he will quite rightly walk away at the end of his term.

We are always going to get these type of signings and as long as there’s a buy option then am happy, he looks like everything we want in a centre back.

Would hope that means the big money is going to get spent at the top end of the pitch.

Under 21 and have been at the club 2 years, Engels and Osmand would need registered.

I don't mind loans, as it can be a good way to fill a position until we find a suitable, permanent solution. However, with this board it just comes across as a cheap option that will leave us in the same situation again 12 months down the line.

Would still take him out of desperation though. If the huns are in for him then it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up there with the way they're splashing money and we're hoarding it.

  6. If this was a Frimpong type deal it would be fine but it’s not. By the looks of it it’s a flat loan like it was with Masonda, Weah et al.

    * pointless.

Says a lot about the club we are doing this at this point in the window.

I think the chance of us ever getting a Frimpong again are long gone. Look at some of the Academy players City have sold recently that didn't feature for them.

    Shea Charles - £10m
    Harwood Bellis - £20m
    Liam Delap - £15m
    Forbs - £12m
    Trafford - £15m

He's young and English so it would be a £10m+ fee it would take I'd say. Our board are only interested in cheap deals. A loan is a complete and utter waste of time, we can barely address problem areas now so we don't need to have another one open.

Given the way out club work would anyone be surprised if we are bringing this guy to then sell CCV?

We have been linked with De Haas and Youte. Both decent and well within in our price range, to this.

Its such a lack of coherent thought for future planning is baffling on this one.

If we had a couple of wingers in the door, I think don’t think this would be getting the same reaction. It’s the fact we have sorted no wingers whilst selling Kuhn, and are acting like we are * skint. So now when it looks like we are going down the loan route for any position, it’s just a bit of a riddy.

If there’s no LTB it’s just kicking the can down the road next year for another manager to have to sort out

I feel like Lawwell actively enjoys gaslighting the supporters.

Celtic and Strasbourg have submitted offers for Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, sources have told Football Insider.

The Scottish and French clubs are among multiple teams trying to sign the 19-year-old wonderkid permanently or on loan.

City are yet to make a decision on whether to let Simpson-Pusey go this summer.

It comes amid a race for his signature that stretches across Scotland, France and Europe after the player’s impressive 2024-25 campaign.

Pep Guardiola handed the centre-back his first-team debut in the EFL Cup against Tottenham last season, and he also made two Premier League appearances later in the season.

As well as making a number of senior appearances last season, Simpson-Pusey impressed in the Premier League 2, winning the player of the season award for the division.

The England under-18 international joined the Man City academy at the age of eight and has come through the ranks at the club.

Last week (23 July), Football Insider exclusively revealed that Simpson-Pusey was attracting interestfrom a number of Scottish Premiership and EFL Championship clubs.

Now, Celtic have made a concrete move for the defender, as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his ranks ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The Glasgow giants face competition in the race for Simpson-Pusey from Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.

If we do sign him who does he replace? Is he to play on the left with CCV? As he is meant to be predominantly right sided and you would imagine if he was to be signed he would be expected to play.

Looks very very good but come on man..

A loan to buy and I'd be happy but a straight loan? Get in the * bin..

His range of passing with both feet is ridiculous for a young centre half though..

Pretty much. I’m really happy with Tierney, Nygren and the Japanese duo, both of whom look great.

Had we signed even one quality winger to replace Kühn I’d be less worried.

We seem to go down this Man City well when we’ve no other ideas. It’s paid off in the past but reeks of desperation around personal connections rather than any scouting plan.

A 'concrete' move - that must be better than an enquiry or monitoring - exciting!!:57:
