I like that we were willing to go more direct in the game. It caused Newcastle problems. Kennys goal was obviously a route 1 job but there were also direct balls looking to get Maeda or Kenny in behind. I think I saw Hatate telling Idah to get himself running in behind instead of coming deep at one point in the 2nd half.

Last season I think we were guilty of being too insistent playing out from the back and playing ourselves into trouble by refusing to go longer. It makes us too predictable. When you have pace like Maeda up front you need to try more balls over the top to unsettle opposition defence and keep them guessing.

Finally caught the game from Saturday (cheers Crow), again some really nice stuff from us. Biggest thing for me is we have good players but more importantly a good system we're confident in.

Seeing hints of us consciously trying to play forward quicker, also getting behind the ball as a unit when the opposition are attacking. That's the kind of thing I was hoping to see as we struggled badly last season when we weren't at the races. If you're struggling, just make sure you're hard to break down...I.e. have a plan B!

Some good performances aswell, Trusty, Inamura, Calmac, Yang were the standouts. Thought Idah done well when he came on (THAT touch aside, * :giggle1:).

Just so satisfying skelping an EPL side to watch their * fans lose their minds. Get it right * round yous ya *.

Finally watched this myself. Not our first choice team, especially in defence, but I'm seeing all the failings of previous years.

This was Newcastle's first game of preseason and without Isak (don't know how many others were missing) and they were well on top at the start of the 2nd half. Too many players ball watching.

Simple 1-2s or runners from deep and we are like statues. Defensive coaching is sorely lacking for me.

Get it right up them they thought that they would come up here and we would just roll over for them.
