Norwich City are not currently pursuing a deal for Celtic winger Yang Hyun-Jun, but Metz's Pape Diallo remains firmly in their sights.

Reports of the Canaries' interest in Yang broke last night, and they are understood to have watched him in their preparations for this summer's transfer window.

But the 23-year-old isn't presently a target, despite links with an exit from the Scottish champions. He's played primarily on the right since moving to Glasgow, with City's priority a left-sided addition after Borja Sainz joined Porto for £14.25million.

Instead Diallo is the subject of club-to-club negotiations, which haven't yet reached an agreement but have continued to progress in recent days. The Senegal international was in the advanced stages of a move to Watford at the start of the month, but confidence is growing at Carrow Road in a potential hijacking of the deal.

The Hornets reportedly agreed a £4.3million fee for Diallo, who is unlikely to meet GBE requirements to join a club in England. Norwich are prepared to get around that by giving him an ESC slot, however, having avoided doing so thus far in their busy transfer window.

Using goal involvements alone, especially assists, is such a misleading defence of a player. It conveniently bundles together two different contributions, and overvalues assists to make a player look better. His end product is largely * and a couple of goals against St.Mirren doesn’t change that. At least one of those assists was a fluke deflection from memory. Another was a simple pass. An assist isn’t always worthy of praise, it sometimes just means the last player to touch the ball before the goal scorer. Engels has an assist to his name for Kühn’s wonder goal vs Leipzig, for example. All Engels did is lay it off then Kühn went on a run. Yang is often dispossessed, lacks end product especially with his cross completion, gets bullied physically, runs into nowhere. He regularly goes on long runs of games contributing zero to goals or assists; in fact in his first 47 games for Celtic, Yang managed a solitary goal against Aberdeen. That’s * dreadful for a winger. Even his slight improvement in the latter half of this season meant little, as when he needed to show up in a cup final, he was dreadful yet again.

Chat of several million for him is laughable.

 

Had a feeling it was made up pish. Wouldn’t surprise me if Celtic planted the story to try and drum up interest.

It wouldn’t surprise me is that Diallo deal goes through if his next move is a 8 figure sale to a top league. He is a talent, already got international caps, good pace on ball intelligence and is versatile but best as an inverted winger off the left.

 

So what I'm reading here is Yang has a strange knack for finding himself in the right position to be the man responsible for an assist? Good trait that. Also weird to down play assists.

Would Jota or Maeda going on a run down the wing and getting past a player to then lay off a ball to striker for a tap in then totally discredit the scorer for not putting in effort? No. We'd all be praising the striker for knowing where to be and slotting it home.

A goal is a goal, and an assist is an assist, either way the player has to be in the position to either score the goal or assist and Yang done that 12 times.

Just because the fanbase think hes *, and im hardly his biggest fan, doesn't mean the club should just desperately sell players for a pittance. They should with the contract going until 2028, 12 goals and assists in 1300 minutes and being fairly young still should be bleeding that stone dry and getting as good a deal as possible. We shouldn't be just rolling over. £5mill should be the starting point.

The same way a goal can just assumingly bounce of someone's * or face, kinda like what Maeda was good should then mislead the players impact with jammy goals.

Im with big Ange . Sick of a player having a shocker and this forum saying "the assist will do him good " for passing the ball 6 yards to a goalscorer.

 

Same can be said for penalties, tap in or otherwise jammy goals the player knows nothing about.
