No issue. He healed a season ending injury in one game.

    BBC Gossip today....

Brentford, Fenerbahce, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are all keen on Celtic forward Daizen Maeda, but they will have to pay more than £25m to persuade the Scottish champions to part with the 27-year-old Japan international. (Football Insider)

Still want to see him back up front as striker instead of on the wing, hopefully once a couple wingers are added this happens

Im not too sure how to feel about putting him out left again. It all depends on how good a striker we have. With Idah? No way.

He just came off a 30+ goals season and he did not even play the entire season through the middle. If he did he would have scored 40+. You dont really move 40 goals back out left again imo.

The thing with Maeda’s mad run of form was he played between LW and ST even in game, playing an hour in one position and half an hour in another. I think he had one game at RW when we skelped Dundee.

I remember Alan Morrison had a look at Maeda and although his scoring rate was crazy good last season, his previous runs at ST in Japan and limited appearances for us was very good. Despite his technical deficiencies his finishing is clinical and he gets high quality chances.

I think there will be games where Maeda left wing makes sense but I would prefer to see him through the middle and sign two wingers.

The main thing for me is I think domestically we need two of the front 3 to be able to get on the ball. When Kuhn cooled off domestically the front 3 of Maeda, Kyogo and Kuhn did struggle to break through a low block. Idah despite his size also plays like a striker who wants to be on the end of things rather than get on the ball.

Jota’s injury is a pain as he is exactly that, a winger who wants the ball regularly. I would like to sign someone that can bring that for one of the wings at least if not both. Serginho at Viborg looks exactly that sort of player, for the right wing and I think we should be all over that.

I wouldn’t want us to go into the season with Maeda as our only left wing option to Jota comes back.

Celtic are pushing to agree a bumper new contract with Daizen Maeda despite growing interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have said about the 27-year-old’s future in Glasgow amid ongoing links with a move away.

The Japan international is believed to be very happy at Parkhead and is keen to put pen to paper on a new deal should he feel the club matches his ambitions.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 4 July that Tottenham are interested in signing Maeda, but would have to pay £25million to prise him away from Celtic

Brendan Rodgers views the forward as a key part of his plans for the future and is aiming to build the team around him to compete both domestically and in Europe.

As a result Football Insider revealed on 15 July that Celtic have opened talks with Maeda and are stepping up their efforts to tie him down

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 6 June that Rodgers is determined to keep Maeda at Parkhead this summer.

The forward had his best season in a Celtic shirt last time out, scoring 16 goals and providing 10 assists in 34 SPFL games as he won the Player of the Season award.

O’Rourke explained that talks are now underway with the forward and progress is being made towards an agreement despite his Premier League suitors.

It makes a lot of sense for Celtic to try and keep hold of Maeda,” he told Football Insider.

“If Celtic want to continue their dominance in Scotland, they’re going to have to keep hold of their best players, and there’s no doubt Maeda is amongst those.

“He’s under contract until 2027, so they’re looking to extend that and give him bumper new terms just to keep the player happy and ward off interest from Premier League clubs.

“There was talk that Brentford and Tottenham were interested in him.

The Japan international was their top goalscorer last season, so he isn’t going to be an easy player to replace if they do end up losing him.

“I think the player is happy at Celtic, especially if they’re competing in the Champions League and winning silverware, he’ll be happy to extend his contract.

“Celtic are looking to build their team around Maeda and won’t want to lose their number-one forward right now.”

    Give him whatever he wants.

I run out of words for describing what he means.

He'll definitely have a new contract on the table from us, doesn't mean he has to sign it yet, no real incentive for him to do so if he knows there's concrete interest from top leagues and he's open to a move.
