Just getting a wee bit nervous we’re going the way of Rodgers’ first transfer window, with quite a few ‘punt’ signings coming in.

It’s very early days of course so no worries yet, but I’ve got it in the back of my head that Rodgers is probably looking at the exit door at the end of this season so they’re potentially going for the infamous ‘spread bet’ strategy.

Millions upon millions upon millions sitting in the bank and we’ve spent about £2m total on 6 players to bloat the squad. I hope we have a real plan in place.

He's on a 3 year contract, and his contract is up at the end of the season.

The squad bloat is a real problem. Taking our defence as the obvious example..

Its one thing spending 250k on a 23 year centre back who isnt ready for first team football and hope one day he can step up. But given we already have 5 centre backs who arent good enough, whats the point? What are the chances that our latest cheap 250k punt turns out to be any better than any of Scales, Rocki, Lager, Welsh, Trusty, or previous punts like Kobayashi.

Absolute scattergun approach done as cheaply as we can get away with. My biggest concern is that this approach then stops us going and signing a proper first team centre half that can make us better.

Edit: and I forgot about Dane Murray. A scottish teen that looks promising but with no route to first team football while we bring in a guy who has played 28 games for a team that finished 16th in the J league.

Still need shot of quite a few players.

Yang, Lagerbielke, Montgomery, Welsh, Palma, Kenny, plus a few youngsters out on loan.

The more we’re being linked with left wingers, the more I think Nygren might be the right wingers after all.

I just think the Inamura deal is beyond bizarre. Like, a £250k punt for a guy from Japan when we have enough back up options at CB who aren’t getting game time. I appreciate you need to trust the scouting but to bring in a 22/23 year old centre back from a country that isn’t exactly famed for its defenders and to the. automatically loan him out, just seems bizarre. Again, if he was 18, 19 or even 20, fair enough. But at 22/23? Just seems so weird to me.

Doonan clearly brought into replace Bain, no issue. Osmand likely the Kenny replacement. Seems a smart move. Highly rated from a highly rated youth system and we look to make a bit of a profit on young Kenny, who by all accounts is likely to get us around £1m. So again, it’s a deal that makes a lot of sense.

Nygren obviously the main signing so far. Will likely go straight into the first 11 if we go back to having an attacking midfielder, which I suspect we will.

I think Jansson and Balikwisha are great back up options to replace Palma and Yang. But they don’t scream first team replacements for Jota and Kuhn. I think the other boy from Japan, Yamada is another that would be bizarre. Maeda showed how effective he was as a striker and should be our first choice going forward. Idah and Osmand are great alternatives to have. Yamada plays as a striker so to bring him in would mean moving Maeda back to left wing and I don’t want to do that.

I think we will do a fair bit of business still.

However my concerns over the structure and the way we do deals is still there. I don't think we will ever truly progress past where we are until we look to appoint a DoF and try and reshape that side of things.

I still get the impression that those at the top are a bit stuck in the past in terms of their approach.

Get the impression as well that deals like Inamura, Rodgers has very little time for. I see the merit but you'd be surprised if he ever plays even 5 games. Very random.

A slight worry for me is if this is Rodgers last season with us, will that be reflected in our transfer business ?

Hopefully with a few on the brink of going out we then see some incomings happen soon after that.

There is still plenty of time but still plenty to do. Nervousness from folk on here is based on past experiences we don’t exactly have a great track record of getting done all that needs done and definitely not in a time efficient manner particularly when CL qualifiers are involved.

I also don’t really care what we spend on players but I want the ones that come in to be with a mind of actually playing. Like if Rodgers doesn’t fancy Yamada don’t bother signing him to not play. We need a couple of forward players who are straight in and ready to make an impact.

This has been suggested. Just need to wait and see.

It would be a stupid approach to take which could cost us both short and long term so you'd hope not. This is where having a proper footballing structure in place with scouting that should be signing and targeting the same kind of player/manager regardless so its a seamless transition.

Sevco are clearly following our lead by signing young promising players, they have just signed a young Norwegian internationalist from Luton. So it has now come to whoever can sign the best ‘project’ players will win the league? This is * disgusting we have the financial power to be setting our sights far higher and blowing them out of the water, if we don’t buy at least 3 ‘proper’ players for relatively big money the league title will end up a 50/50 call at the start of each season.

No more low value punts please, we need to see players coming in who will go straight into the first team. If that doesn’t come we will have no one but ourselves to blame if the title ends up at their *-tip. May not happen this season but it will fairly soon if it’s now become who can sign the best up and coming players for around £2 million, board are asleep at the wheel once again and it will eventually blow up in their faces unless they start signing proven quality players.
