Stunned by how folks here have written him off.

Maybe I missed something, but for me he was excellent in Europe and generally solid excepting one or 2 rocky games late in season when the whole team were off form.
He's certainly a level above Scales, but Rodgers does seem to have this blind spot on centre halves.

I think he's excellent and hope he stays to partner CCV.

Had a dip in form coinciding with the birth of his child, no biggie - he'll return better after pre-season.

Id agree with this but Rodgers now sees him 2nd choice to Liam Scales so that's why he needs to go. We know Rodgers has always had his favourites and a ridiculous habbit of casting players aside and there is no chance we can go into a 3rd champions League campaign with Scales as a starting CB.

On Rodgers, that attitude towards players is a massive issue for us. As a club we are not gonna sign finished articles so we need to sign guys with qualities with room to develop. Guys such as; Trusty, Nawrocki, Lagerbielke, Holm, Bernardo, Idah and Engels.
He's getting paid big money because he's supposedly a coach that develops players but lately he just tends to bin players after a few poor performances and then moans about a lack of depth.

You want depth and quality, do your job and develo the 4 guys you spent £30m on last summer before you go spend another £30m this year on guys that still won't be the finished article

He's better than Scales, but he would also command a higher fee than Scales so if we are looking to spend a few bob on a new CB then he will be the one to leave.

I would prefer we kept him tho as he had some good performances for us.

Genuine question, was this around the time of the Dundee game where he got visibly mentally bullied by their striker and gave away a goal from a corner?
Would explain it if so and could start letting him off with that (ever so slightly) that his head wouldn't be 100% in the game, but worrying if that's not within the timeline and could still ge an ongoing issue - ala Julien and and the Livi/dykes nonsense

I think Rodgers prefers Scales, because he sees Scales as being better on the ball. And domestically we have about 70% possession in games. I think where Trusty was meant to have the edge of Scales was in defending. But he had a few games where he was shaky and physically was bullied. So I reckon Rodgers felt well if you arent going to defend any better than Scales and you arent as good on the ball as Scales - then I may as well just bring Scales back in.

Could explain it.... but for me it's a perception that's gradually built up but no longer true.

I absolutely disagree with premis that Scales is good/better with ball.
Maybe a year ago, but no longer.
Since he's been back in team, he consistently hesitates on ball and turns it over. Usually in dangerous positions.
Trusty is actually pretty decent pushing the ball up to the wingers.
Regardless, it's the tippy tappy midfield that should be moving us forward, not the centre halves.

On defending, Trusty is clearly a far better defender than Scales - and at his very best, I'd argue as good as CCV due the extra pace he brings.
After a decent start to Celtic defensive career, the Scales of last season is average at best and should not be in the first XI.
I don't get what Brendan sees other than this left/right 'balance' bullshit he seems obsessed with.

It was the same previously with Yang starting before Kyogo because he'd rather play an inferior player than compromise the 'system' by playing 2 in form strikers like Idah and Kyogo.

Play your best players and shape the system around them, not the other way around

Aye I think its a myth he's better on the ball.

Watch the cup final back to see that. Teams are happy for him to have it for a reason.

His concentration is an issue for me, seems too easily rattled. Don't think he's going anywhere though, so just have to hope he can keep his brain farts to a minimum next season as he did have some very good performances.

Would be happy to have him for another season.

You don't put MOTM performances against LeipIg, Atalanta and Bayern x2 if you aren't a good player.

Far better than Scales, someone said here it could be a Kelvin Wilson type situation and I agree.

If it really is the case, it's easy to see why the poor guy's been mentally weak if there's a newborn in the gaff.

That said, his mrs needs to have a look at herself man, she should be making sure oor Auston gets a good night's rest ffs!!!

Can only imagine he is the bread winner in the house, she should be making sure he's at peak performance :56:

Dundee game was in January and kid was born in n April but you never know what's going on in private. Mrs could of been having a difficult time or even just struggling to sleep.
Good preseason and then see where he is at and hopefully things are settling down at home now

Games were we are under pressure he's done well still think he handles Watkins brilliantly at villa park. Games we are comfortable in hes had problems, seems to have issues with focusing for the 90 when he's only having to defend a few times per half

    Fair that aye.
Entering last trimester can always provide it's own issues of course.

I'm inclined not to completely overlook and "forgive" the * performances and mentally weak moments, but there is scope of reasonable excuse for it. Guys human afterall.

But with you as well, new season, pre season etc and worth another shot.
But we do still need someone much better regardless

Scales performance at Ibrox in January should have ended the myth he's better than anyone else on the ball.

    * dreadful performance, where he made a * of playing it out from the back early on and then looked like the ball was a bomb for the rest of the half.
Still don't understand how he wasn't hooked at half time that day. Bottle had totally gone and not the 1st time either.
He went through a spell in Rodgers 1st season where he was getting stick from the fans and was like that on the ball for weeks, was around about semi final v Aberdeen time. That game always sticks out bcoz he was getting loads of abuse that day from plenty round about me and he just kept shelling it out the park.

For me the issue is how he's now viewed by Rodgers.
For me he's better than Scales but I don't think Rodgers views him that way and he can he quite a stubborn * with things like this.

Aye I've felt that about him. The Wilson thing.

Even then, Wilson looked jobbies first season and I had zero hopes. Trusty was nowhere near that level. As you've said there, performances in Europe lend to that.

    Starfelt was another.

Spfl is a completely unique type of league where refs happily allow hammer throwers like Simon Murray and Pape Gueye to just smash into our centre backs unpunished.

Sometimes it takes guts into their 2nd season to adjust.

Hes shown in Europe he's more than capable
