He's had goals he should have done better at and was better at pretty much everything first half of the season, which applies to most of our players, so I'd say I agree with everything you've said.

The life of a goalkeeper is a pressure-filled one, with Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the same boat as his fellow professionals between the sticks.

A veteran of the game, the 38-year-old goalkeeper was front and centre last month at Hampden, as it was his mistake that allowed Aberdeen back into the game, who won on penalties after extra time.

No stranger to criticism, especially from his homeland, the Denmark international opened up on his error in the final, insisting that he takes no note of negative comments from outside sources. “I have never read what the media writes about me, and I don’t follow social media either, because there will always be opinions, there will always be criticism and praise, so you have to tackle it all the same way," Schmeichel told Ekstra Bladet.

“That’s life as a goalkeeper. I love the pressure and the fact that you always live on the edge. That’s just how it is to be a goalkeeper. It’s always the smallest margins that determine whether you have a decisive role.”

“When, towards the end of the final against Aberdeen, we blew a kick that could have decided the game in our favour, it wasn’t a focus point after the game. It was my mistake that was talked about.

"It’s just life as a goalkeeper.”

Schmeichel continued: “I was born in the 80s and was a child in the 90s. Fortunately, I grew up without the technology we have today, where input comes from everywhere all the time. I am also very lucky to have a father who has tried a lot of things in the world of football.

"He gave me advice very early in my career that I have chosen to follow: He told me not to read what was written about me.”

Despite his mistake at the national stadium, Schmeichel enjoyed a successful first season in goals at Celtic, winning the Scottish Premiershipand League Cup double, as well as featuring in the Champions League beyond the League Phase.

Think he rushed himself back, but he had some good saves when he played 2 games previous and prior to him starting the final I didn’t see a single complaint with him getting the nod.

After the fall out of the game, on reflection, * it he was a revelation for us this season. And he made a bad mistake, in a big game, but he’s also bailed us out a lot since coming in.

The rest of the team should have been good enough to bail him out for the mistake. And we werent’t.

How big a deal, would it be, if Kasper came home to Copenhagen and Parken stadium this summer? Would Celtic find a proper goalie in his place?

I think he would have been phased out over the season anyway. Sinisalo is obviously the future and tbh while I'd like Schmeichel to stay another season, I would be confident in his replacement.

He's signed a contract, unless there are things we don't know of he should see it out.

He's definitely needing phased out more quickly across the season I'd say.

He was asked about if he’d return to play in Denmark

https://www.bt.dk/fodbold/schmeichel-melder-ud-afviser-ikke-superligaenSchmeichel melder ud: Afviser ikke Superligaen | BT Fodbold - www.bt.dk

The Danish national team star does not rule out a move back home to the Superliga at a later stage in his career.

He says this in an interview with BT.

I would never turn down anything. not even playing in Denmark one day. If the opportunity arose, I would always take it seriously and see if there were sporting advantages to it," says the goalkeeper, before adding:

"I've always thought that football is so unpredictable that you always have to take any possibilities seriously."

Kasper Schmeichel has also been able to see how the level in the Super League has increased significantly over a number of years.

Among other things, when Danish teams have been on a tour in Europe.

"Every time I see a Super League team in Europe, they are always competitive. It's really rare that they get their ears in the machine," says the Dane, who has spent most of his career in England.

"For me, British football has suited me well. My mentality was built in British football as a young man. That's where I've played the most," he concludes.

38-year-old Kasper Schmeichel has a contract with Scottish club Celtic until the summer of 2026.

Absolutely love big Kasper, but would also be nice to see him being 'not quite so big' Kasper for the 1st game of season.

He's been amazing for us, just want him to physically be ready for an even better season (or 2?)
