Brendan Rodgers is desperate to keep his Celtic squad together this summer with Daizen Maeda attracting Premier League interest, sources have told Football Insider.

Promoted Leeds United and West Ham are among the sides linked with a potential swoop for the 27-year-old Japan international

Celtic have a recent history of completing big summer sales with Jota and Matt O’Riley sealing exits in back-to-back years.

However, Rodgers is keen to avoid any more departures after Kyogo Furuhashi left Parkhead to join Rennes in the January transfer window

Football Insider revealed in April that he wants “huge” transfer backing this summer with his long-term Celtic future uncertain.

Rodgers is plotting another push in Europe next term after Celtic‘s success in the Champions League this season

His contract is only set to run until May 2027 and the ex-Leicester boss is keen for his demands to be met if he is to pen an extension.

Maeda has hit 33 goals and notched 12 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions this term.

He is under contract until May 2027 after joining Celtic from Yokohama F. Marinos in 2022.

Player’s voting him poty is the least surprising. Imagine needing to play against him. Even Bayern were astounded

I always think the players player of the year is the most impressive award to win given its coming from the opinions of the guys actually playing the games.

Same mate, I don’t think you can vote for a teammate either, so also quite a fair award.

Although, Van Dijk not winning it despite every player in Scotland saying he was just so far ahead still shows some strange * can happen

See watching this Europe league final Daizen would absolutely walk into either of these teams in their front line either off the left or through the middle.

We were using him out of position for the majority of the season. It wasn't until we sold Kyogo that he finally reached his full potential. If he's the first-choice CF next season, I bet he'll score north of 40 goals.

Maeda under Ange in the prem would be a ridiculous weapon.

Every journo and pundit will be dumbfounded by how he is perceived to lack the technical skill but yet is one of the most lethal and dangerous attackers in the league

And dread playing him, and they’ll be talking after playing him what the * can you do. He’s relentless that’s the thing, and he knows it, plays on it, makes those he’s up against try and keep up knowing they can’t.

Those players must go off the pitch * knackered and feeling bewildered. And that’ll be players talking to other players about guys like that.

Him this season is the biggest example of a guy that will just feel unstoppable

He basically plays every position for the team

He’ll probably play in goals if you ask him

If you get him to sprint post to post he’d probably do well anyway in goals.

I’ve always thought weirdly he was terrible on the right. This season he had one game there scored 2, he had 16 there 0 goals 1 assist before that though looked it up afterwards cos my brother was slating me.

Maeda if we manage to keep him the level we’ve saw since Jan will drop, it needs to. He had like 15 in 10 games. It doesn’t matter though, I don’t think anyone expects that level all of the time. Up until Jan he was lauded as brilliant form, with 1 in 2 sort of form. If he settles from Jan return to just above that I’ll be delighted. But even the summer before this season, without that sort of end product, I can remember saying he’s irreplaceable. * knows what he is now. Im genuinely scared about what can happen with him in summer. We genuinely cannot replace what he brings, we would need to change up everything else to fill that gap. Even if we sign a good replacement. Everyone always laughs at this comparison but the only guy I can make the comparison with what he brings is * Kante

Not out of position, LW isn’t him out of position. But he thrived up top but people forget he never had a full 90 up top either. It was using his adaptability as well that made that run happen. He went from up top middle, they were desperate trying to cope, then he was on a wing and they couldn’t. Or the other way round.

He was that on fire and I just made that point in my last reply, he scored two off the right, he played 16 there the rest of the time here 0 goals 1 assist. He was golden for that period. We can’t expect that. He had 15 in 10 at one point.

that’s not sustainable and not to be expected

Celtic hero Daizen Maeda will be able to take a well-earned break after today's Scottish CupFinal as Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu revealed he has rested him for their World Cup qualifiers.

Japan were the first team to clinch their qualification for the Finals next year in USA, Canada and Mexico and they still have two more dead rubber games to come in their group, away to Australia and at home to Indonesia.

But Maeda - and injured Celtic teammate Reo Hatate - won't have to make the exhausting trip halfway around the world after Moriyasu opted to leave out some of his most established stars to look at other domestic-based players instead.

He explained: "Some of the regular players who are always in the squads have been left out for these games.

Considering that some of the main players had played a lot of games before and suffered frequent injuries throughout the season, we decided not to call them up this time.

"The guys who have played a lot of football deserve a rest."

Maeda is set to play his 56th game of the season for club and country today when he starts in the Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen. He's scored 34 goals.

34 goals in 56 games. What a man.

Need to roll back the tapes for the poster who argued with me he wasn’t a striker when I suggested so after kyogo leaving :67:
