Arne Engels

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Callum McGregor, Aug 29, 2024.

  1. Being linked with Atalanta as a replacement for Ederson. The source here isn’t the best but they quote Italian media. It states Gasporeni wants assurances about being able to sign new players if he signs a new deal and sanctions selling Lookman and Ederson.

Could be a lot of nonsense but if there is something in that you have to think the player would want the move given they have guaranteed CL football.

  2. Literally just drawing a name out the transfer kitty hat

And in midfield concrete attempts had already been made for Frendrup of Genoa and Arne Engels of Celtic. In defense there have already been indications of the redemption of Kossounou, both Ordonez of Brugge and Solet from Udinese. In short, Gasperini has opened up but the market will be fundamental for the ever-growing ambitions of Atalanta”.

  3. If there is anything in the reports the question is would you sell him for say double what we paid? So around 22million?
Even if it’s less let’s say 15-18 million, would people be happy to take that?

  4. Tricky one tbh… I personally probably would take the hypothetical 22 million for him just now but it’s definitely not beyond the realms of possibility that he actually kicks on massively next season and develops in to a cracking player.

  5. Definitely wouldn't sell him and dint think there's any chance we do.

  6. Nobody is offering us 22 million for Engels.

  7. Potential fee plus Lookman would make sense as Rodgers was very close to signing lookman in his first spell.

  8. Arne Engels is reportedly the subject of significant Serie A interest after his debut campaign at Celtic.

But Record Sport understands the Premiership champions are in no rush to sell the Belgian international. Both the player and club expect to stick together even if long-term admirers Atalanta turn their admiring glances into sustained interest in the coming weeks

Engels has one final game of the campaign to come as he looks to end what has been a whirlwind 12 months in Glasgow since his record breaking transfer last summer by lifting the Scottish Cup to complete a domestic Treble.

The Belgium cap has impressed and reports out of Italy have suggested the Champions League bound Bergamo outfit - who the Hoops faced last year - have made 'concrete attempts' to snap up the 21-year-old.

Celtic invested £11million to land Engels from Augsburg - so it would take a massive fee for Brendan Rodgers and Co to even consider doing any sort of business.

  9. Anything over £20m and id sell, doesnt do enough for me.

  10. Debut season, 22 in September, 23 goal involvements. Doesn't do enough.

What the * would be enough then?

Would you have sold MOR when he only got 18 goal involvements in his first full season in Scotland?

Would be utter madness to sell him right now when everything points to Engles having quite clearly a hugely underrated debut season and with the right focus and guidance could potentially go on to have a mental season next season

  11. Genuinly work on his composure in front of goal and he would be well over 30. A thing that I bet will come. Just like MOR.

I think next season with the right additions to help challenge and push on guys like Idah, Kuhn, fill in the gap left by Jota's long term injury and the keeping Maeda fresh. Engles could rightly set himself a personal target of getting over 30 goal involvements next season. It wouldn't shock me to see him become some sort of assisting machine and get like 20+ assists and then 15 goals next season

  12. Be a far better player next season after a full pre season with us.

Its a downfall of waiting until last second to buy players. They get zero time to settle in.

Happens with us all the time it's no coincidence and shows we need our business done sooner

  13. No chance Engels goes already. We'll lose a couple of big hitters but they way people have been going on on here, we won't have an 11 to pick from soon..

He'd be a game changing signing for us. Think he could easily get a good EPL move still though..

  14. If we get a decent offer for Engels, we won't stand in his way. I think Engels would actually be very suited to the Serie A.

  15. Full pre season, see how he goes. Big season for him next year.

  16. Wouldn't it be a fee plus Engels to get Lookman? He's scored 20 this season including Champions League goals.

  17. Lookman...cmon lads :56:

    You're talking £50m for him.

  18. We didn't spend big on Engels so that we could sell him for the same price we ask for guys we spent 4 or 5 million on.

Engels is our record fee paid, we'd need a record fee in to sell him. Especially with so long left on his contract.

I wouldn't answer the phone to Atalanta for less than £30m. And given the way the tried to penny pinch us over O'Riley, I think I'll be forgiven for keeping my phone on silent.
