Just need to look at maeda right now.
Don't think if ange was still here maeda would be flourishing the same way

It's fair to say Ange recognized his talents, but under Rodgers, specifically this season, Maeda exploded.

Exactly. Same goes for guys like Forrest, Taylor, Scales, and Ralston. Rodgers transfers have been pretty mediocre but his ability to max out what he has to work with is exceptional. I think we take these sort of 7 or 8 out of 10 type performers for granted because we see it so often and so consistently.

And we all know why that is, Rodgers is easily a better head coach than he is a manager.

His ego won’t admit that but see if you put him into the likes of a Club Brugge who are great at developing their own players from their academy and their recruitment model has worked great in recent years he would be exceptional. Even a Brighton or the likes.

The problem we have absolutely no proper recruitment department.

I think if we sold Engels this summer (obviously I know we are not planning on doing that) we would make a profit on him. Not a big one but a profit nonetheless and I think it is very likely he will develop into a very good player for us and it would not shock me at all if we ended up selling him for at least double what we paid for him.

Engels doesn't concern me in the slightest, you can see the quality is there from day one, his touch and eye for a pass etc... same as O'Riley, once he really starts to put it all together and if he adds a few more goals from open play we'll struggle to hold on to him.

Indirectly I think I was trying to highlight just how exceptional Ange’s recruitment was when he was with us.

As put earlier, I like the idea of Rodgers working in a BHA style set up.

But firstly I don’t think he would ever accept those conditions placed upon him, and secondly our recruitment model is light years away from that anyway.

Sure more knowledgeable people will know better than me, but when at Liverpool didn’t he sell Suarez and replace him with Ricky Lambert and Mario Balatelli??

Highlighting his recruitment comes across as very negative towards Rodgers, and as I put earlier the team’s improvement under his management has been exceptional at times this year.

I’m not trying to dig him out, was just comparing his recruitment with us to Ange - who in comparison, needs a win tonight to hopefully retain his job at Spurs.

    footballs a weird old thing!!

Ange did make some very good signings.

But I don't think Ideguchi, Kobayashi, Kwon, Oh, Haksabanovic, Iwata, Abilgaard or Bernabie were amongst them. Would have included Yang in that list but he has shown recently that he might prove to be a decent acquisition. And I don't think we can blame Ange for the James McCarthy fiasco.

Point being...he made some bad signings too. Every manager does and I think people get on Brendan's case for it too much.

Liverpool have a board that sign players for him and same now. I'm pretty sure i read he was actually raging that was his replacements. Fact is when given the right players he near enough took a dog * Liverpool team to within a slip away. In hindsight, glad he never let gerrard win. Dirty we rat *. Greatest slip ever.

There areas to improve within our recruitment, but this just isn’t true.

I would argue compared to those who are really good at player recruitment it is.

Yes we have scouts and a head of scouting but our CEO and CFO are massively involved in our transfer dealings and have no clear Director of Football, yes they brought in Paul Tisdale as Head of Football Operations but it has never been made clear what his remit actually is and we never hear from him or the CEO as to what our plans for the club are.

The scrambling about at the end of windows and leaving it down to a coin toss essentially isn’t proper recruitment or squad management.

The club have never been fully transparent with fans about the remit of various background individuals, that doesn’t mean they’re not doing their job.

There are a lot of reasons most deals happen towards the end of a transfer window and a lot of it isn’t the club’s fault.

At one point we had 4 head of scouts under various different labels and 3 scouts. Congerton ripped our system and scouting staff apart, insanely. When Lenny came in our signings were from either guys who played against us, played well against Rangers and reputation. Like Barkas, Bolingoli and Duffy.

We were trying to bring something back in place then covid happened. Then the infuriating thing for me, Ange came in, and used his knowledge of different markets to our advantage. And club contacts go us last minute loans in CCV and Jota when we missed targets, in Moritz Jens and Mitoma.

January was Ange targets again. O’Riley after we missed Ange’s target and was shared from City group connections, he was well watched MOR from them, Liverpool, Brighton and Dortmund.

We had exceptional business that season. And what did we do in the meantime? We counted on that was the new normal, didn’t do anything to rebuild the scouting. Mark Lawwell then got brought in with the other * that left with him, both as scouting managers.

It’s criminal. It’s just now being built back up. I think Congerton left 6/7 years ago? And we’re just now starting the process, this season. Well last Feb when the sackings happened with Lawwell Jr, with rumours of BR ultimatums

Huns at the BBC trying to declare a cup tie a draw so that they can deny Rodgers his incredible 100% record in the Cup.

BRENDAN RODGERS has hit back at critics who have been playing down Celtic's success this season.

Celtic will be crowned Premiership champions if they avoid defeat at Tannadice tomorrow and will be Treble winners if they also beat Aberdeen in the Hampden showpiece next month.

But even with a potential domestic clean sweep on the horizon, some critics have suggested it would be "the most tedious" Treble of all time.

Rodgers, however, has shut down these suggestions and has claimed this could be his BEST season yet at Parkhead.

The Celtic manager led the Hoops to an incredible Invincible Treble in his first season in charge during his first spell.

But the Northern Irishman is on the brink of Celtic history as he will become the first manager to win all the silverware in three separate seasons.

He told Celtic TV: "If I look over both spells, for me, it's been really satisfying. Why? Because I've had two different teams now.

"Obviously Callum, James, Bainy has been involved, Tony… apart from that, there's not been too many that have been over the course of my two spells.

"So taking two different teams to these points, it's so hard work. I think people who don't recognise it, they don't understand it or don't have the knowledge of what it takes to actually win.

"We see it throughout the world, teams that spend money and then are deemed to have the best squads - but they don't always win

"What we have here is a culture that is built around winning and then what that takes, and obviously, the biggest word of that, which is a real challenge, is consistency.

"So you can have quality players, but if they're not consistent and the mentality and their work, and their ideas and how they play and how they train, then it's a challenge.

But for me, it's been so satisfying this season and I'll become even more satisfied and probably my BEST season here if we can finish off with these two trophies.

"So, I've been delighted with all the work we've put in and how we recovered from setbacks, but it is not easy, I can guarantee you that.

So much goes into it. It's 24/7 at a club like this here, also the expectations, the pressures. So these players have dealt with that so, so well
