  1. Not sure how or why this boy keeps starting games for us ahead of Bernardo....

  2. I've already said why.

They have to justify the huge price tag. I know that is not fair, but what can you do ?.

  3. Be interesting to see how the staring 11 looks in the next few games.

  4. I think the price tag is a factor here, but it's up to Rodgers to manage him properly, players have to earn the right to start.

  5. Bernardo needs to come in for Engels. He visibly struggle tonight. He wasn’t the only one as I thought first half the back four and McGregor were all to slow and safe in possession. But nothing was happening for him at all.

  6. I think tonight should have Rodgers thinking the same .

  7. I thought he improved second half, but he was rotten in the first (as was everyone bar the defence tbh)

Probably my only criticism of Rodgers this season is I don't think he's handling Engels well at all. We have two really good players in Bernardo and McCowan ready to start (and both good enough to start) yet we keep persisting with Engels, who is going through a rough patch.

He's clearly a very, very talented player and I have 0 worries, but he hasn't been able to recover since that Dortmund game, he shouldn't be a guaranteed starter the now.

  8. Poor again in one of these domestic games when pressed..

Was one instance straight from second half kick off. 50/50 header and there for him, big boy and he sort of backs out and makes a feeble attempt like a tiny winger would..

Mon son. He's quality but need more in these games..

  9. He just doesn't stamp his authority enough on games for me.

I get that he's young but so is Bernardo, so was O'Riley when he joined, etc.

The potential is definitely there but you want to see a bit more from him, especially for that price tag.

  10. Needs to earn his place. Should be getting his opportunity from the bench until that happens similar to what Bernardo has had to do. Last in line for me of our main midfielders.

  11. Still think he will come good. Probably wouldn't drop him for brugge as I think he will have the bit between the teeth in that.. but Bernardo is banging on the door to start

  12. I do think he has potential but I’ve lost count of the number of times he’s shat a 50/50. It’s not only concerning, it’s completely unacceptable imo. There’s no excuse for it.

  13. He's shown nothing to justify him starting.

  14. Aye I can't lie I've seen a fair few now myself..

Thing is first few games he was flying about everywhere in to challenges and roughing the diets up at Celtic Park early on. I remember likes of Shankland bouncing off him I'm 50/50's and him sliding in elsewhere mixing it..

Looks a bit lethargic at times for me..

  15. I think if Engels had gone to another team in the Bundesliga for £11m he wouldn’t have skipped a beat.

But I think coming to celtic as our record transfer fee, replacing MOR, comes with its own pressure. he is still very young after all. I think he will come good, but it may take a little bit of time and some time on the bench would probably be good for him and the team.

I don't think he's fully recovered from that Dortmund game tbh.

He was excellent before that and, as you said, a very physical player who went in for every 50/50.

Since that game he's been the opposite, not saying he's been bad in every game since then, he was good against Leipzig and Motherwell for example, but he's not been the same, wonder if that game spooked him?

Either way as I said earlier, I wish Rodgers would manage him a little better, despite the price tag he's still a young player and the worst thing you can do is continually play him through that stint, that's a few games now where he should have clearly been on the bench. To further add to that, he's played 2 games for Belgium during the break, you could argue a rest would have done him so good.

No reason Bernardo shouldn't be starting games from now on, Engels is a class young player who'll find his form again, but he needs to do so from the bench.

  16. Biggest worry for me is his lack of effort from him. Just don't know what to make of that.

  17. Not reading any more after I post this, because have seen a few comments actually calling him rubbish.

He's a good player, lots of potential, control and weight of pass is excellent. Workrate is good, I have no complaints.

I think his price tag is not his fault and irrelevant tbh and overall, although I know online stuff like this is just a tiny bit of our support, just * support the bhoy man lol. Quite mwi the now but reading comments on here is * brain damage, Kyogo would have been * off if it were up to some *. Surely if you watch or play football, at any level you can see he's a player?

    * it, as I say absolutely mwi

  18. Because it's a massive kick in the balls to our opponents when we sub off an £11M player and bring on someone that's even better
