  2. I done this last week. What an experience it was to be able to walk all around the stadium (just not allowed on the track or pitch). The 2 guys that worked there Carlos & can't remember the other guys name, were brilliant to the fans. They even gave all us a bottle of water as it was boiling, gave them both a good bung :62::ynwacelti

  3. Going in November, what's a respectable bung?

  4. There was 4 of us so gave each guy 20 Euro each. Carlos was there to greet us then the other guy stood at the top to make sure nobody went on the pitch. Well worth 10 Euro each :50:

  6. At the end.

There's actually no pressure to give cash but well worth whatever your happy to give them. I loved it so ended up giving the guy 50 euros for me and the family. We did get the free bottles of water too though, so cheap at the price :56:

  7. Wee Carlos must make a few Euro out of us all. Honest ,he is so humble. Think he supports Benfica if I remember rightly.

  8. Aye it was definitely Benfica.

Lovely guy, no rushing us, more than happy for us to take our time, even got us onto the track and up the tunnel to the top, where the teams came out, although groundskeepers made sure we stayed off the grass. And whilst we did give him a bung, sure it wouldn't have been a problem if we hadn't either. Absolutely no pressure.

  9. Think they usually get 40 fans a day. With the renovations planned more & more are going now. There was a squad of fans leaving & about 30 when I was in about noon time. If everybody gives a small amount, the guys are doing well.

  10. Salaries in Portugal are relatively low (minimum salary is 820€ pre-tax and average is ~1,400€ pre-tax) so he may well be doubling his salary just on tips.

Looking at the online reviews and the amount of effort and patience he puts in (guy seems more like a tour guide than your average security guard) seems well deserved. Happy to know that he is a Benfica fan. Also read some reviews by Celtic fans that mentioned the Eusébio memorial which is always nice to see as a Benfica fan.

Your average Portuguese has no idea that Estádio Nacional is visited by dozens of Celtic fans eveyday. I would be surprised to know that any other fans attribute such importance to a stadium that is not their home ground. Shows some real passion for the club.

My lad was there 2 years ago and I hope to go very soon.

  13. Aye but make sure you can get access. John Paul Taylor puts the dates on twitter that you can't visit. This is due to football games being played in the stadium it is closed on certain dates.
