I have thought a few times that if i was a proffesional player and i had to play the huns for whatever reason, my heart would just not be in it and my performances would show that. Looking at Scott Brown he looks like a player that is playing this way.

I really like Brown as a player but has anyone else notived this?

We seen a bit of bite in pre season but he just never really gets the boot in or fired up against the huns or big spl games. When he starts for Celtic we seem to play pish.

I really dont think he wants to play for Celtic and should be sold in the summer.

I reckon if my wee sister had just died after a lengthy battle with cancer i don't think i'd be going to work with a smile on my face.

Just my 2 cents, i'm not making excuses for him as we know he can be better.

I know what you mean but i'm talking last season also, and he was showing fight in pre season not long after the tragedy, i watch him and can't help thinking he is playing for the wrong side.

To be fair though, his sister was probably fighting cancer throughout last season too. It's a lengthy battle...

what is he actually good at though

for all his little heels flicks and runs that he seems to be getting praise for there is no end product,

i wanted to like him when he signed, but its really hard to with a player like robson in the team that will actually make a difference

I just feel he needs something to trigger him into action. I would say just by looking at him he looks like he is just strolling at about 40%, just like JVOH, just like zurawski was, just like Jarosik was, just like Donati does. Anyone noticing a pattern here?

Funny you say that...true story this..

My Boss at work, he knows Stephen Glass (i don't want to say too much). When Brown and Thomson were still at Hibs he and his son were invited down for his sons birthday to watch the Celtic Hibs game, think it was 2-2 or 3-2 us, can't remember. Scott Brown was in Lennons face the whole game.

My boss was sitting in the main stand and was sitting next to Scott Browns brother, not sure if he's younger or older than Scott. This was at the point where they were talking about selling Brown/Thomson as a package. His brother was speaking to his mate and said "Well we know he's never goin to sign for Celtic, he hates those *" or something to that effect, basically stating he would never play for Celtic, so my boss was shocked to say the least when Celtic signed him.

You may be spot on with what you're saying. He seems to play well for Scotland and then * for us, so what else is there to explain that? If he doesn't want to be here, get our money back and let him go.

I don't think my boss would have any reason to lie about this btw. I'm not asking you to believe me, but I certainly believe him.

If you think he's deliberately playing poorly, you are off your * rocker.

    No offence.

I think on the face of it he's been playing absolutely terrible. Maybe I'm not being too fari considering issues in his personal life. I think a fair solution would be to bench him for longer while he recovers. We can't be playing him if he isn't performing regardless of what happens off the pitch.

More time perhaps? In the meantime play Robson please Mr Strachan.

Nobody is saying he's playing pish on purpose, I just don't think his heart is in it. He's a professional at the end of the day and always will be, but I honestly think he doesn't want to be here.

I might be way out with my thoughts and i know it's a strange way to put it, but i have often thought that if i had to play for the huns how would i play, and it would similair to the way Brown plays for us.

Fact of the matter is you can say he's been a waste of money but you'd recoup his transfer fee in January from any number of clubs down south.

I don't think he's playing as well as he can either and Robson would be in front of him every time for me but there's still time for him to come good.

    Kyogo. A phenomenon
I've been saying this for a while - i don't think he knows what * role he's meant to be playing half the time - when at Hibs, he was the focal point, and everything ran through him - obviously coming to us is an undoubted step up, and he was no longer "top dog" as such, but i think Strachan needs to have a long hard look at what he wants him do be doing...half the time, he looks lost IMO - and for a guy as good as he can be, that's a terrible waste. He doesn't get forward as much as he used to - but i'm sure that's not as a result of a lack of willing, rather team tactics themselves.

Was reading an article about John Wark (ex Pool and Ipswich) in the Sun today - he was mentioning the lack of goal scoring / creativity in the modern midfielder, and raised many good points. Brown is capable of so much, but in this team at present he looks as if he is being made to play within himself from an attacking stance, and a defensive mid he most certainly is not...

Brown for me has never been a player I wanted at the club, IMO he was a liability at Hibs. When we were first in for him I thought OK 1 maybe 2 million cant do much harm he’s only a kid maybe he will calm it an improve.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
However for 4.4 million I honestly was scratching my head. I think the euphoria surrounding him throughout the press along with his transfer fee somewhat clouded most Celtic supporter’s judgement on Brown.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Most were expecting a midfield dynamo the heartbeat of our team, I just didn’t see that player in him. Thus far he has been a major failure I truly hope he goes on to prove us all wrong and becomes a Celtic great. However I just can’t see it becoming a reality, because of his hefty fee it is almost impossible not to play him. His performances don’t merit a starting place most would agree. However he is continually picked which is having a negative effect in the way the team is performing.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
We should have cut our losses in the summer and invested heavily in a quality CM player.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
This will not go down well on here but out of the two hibs CM players in Thomson and Brown I think we got the wrong one. We needed a defensive minded midfielder perhaps someone better than Thomson but what we ended up with was an inofective and expensive player who thus far has been a mistake.

    was petrov but now McManus
id put him on the bench. whats he done to justify a position? players should be benched if they play that bad. I know a lot of people dont like donati and i agree hes hardly a world beater but in pre season he was pretty good for us. So hes had a few stinkers so has brown. There shouldnt be one set of rules for one player and a completly different set for another player. I know robson will come in for brown and quite right. But for donati to not even make the bench on sunday and not even get a sniff this season after having a good season is not right. I think the scottish lads seem to be getting shown more favouritism than the others. A comment recently was about caldwell having a great character. Im sorry but having a great character doesnt make you a great footballer.

Hammer, you may well be right but I think to recoup his fee may be a tad optimistic

I mean do you think Celtic would pay 4.4 million for him now?

Interesting mate perhaps you’re right and he’s just not being used to his strengths. However I think you could say the same thing about a number of players both past and presently under WGS. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
