Really we should be buying his replacement before he goes anyway. Even if we somehow keep him it's obvious he'll be here for a maximum of 1 more year. Buy them, bed them in, and be ready for once. It would probably even work out cheaper in the long run as fees seem to only going up anyway.

But we won't as spending money on another wage, regardless of whether the player would actually be great cover, would be a waste...

At this point he will be away it sounds like Atalanta are at least getting towards our ball park in terms of bids. There has been long standing rumours Matt fancies the move, I think a deal will be done.

I just hope we get Engels in as his replacement and strengthen the other areas we need too.

I am hoping we keep him this season, but I can see this going into the last week or even days of the transfer window.

The club better be ready to get his replacement in if that happens.

I've given up on these "maybe they'll stay just until..." transfers. They always go through at the last minute. I'd imagine the club knows that too, given the talk of them letting the agent discuss terms. We should just stonewall on the terms and look at replacements/strengthening and be set for the last day

The club probably knows the minimum they will get for him now and could start budgeting around that. If the guy from Ausburg comes in that seems like a solid replacement. But it's not just an O'Riley replacement we need to budget for, we need a LB and a CB too (probably more but those 2 prioritise winger or 3rd striker for me).

I hope that’s the case, we have someone lined up, but we have been lacking doing that in the past.

    https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Calc...po-koopmeiners-sempre-piu-vicino-wesley.shtml

Atalanta rises to 27 million for the Dane, the deal is very close. But it doesn't end here: hot hours also for the right back

Two million still separate Atalanta and Celtic from the definition of the deal for the purchase of Matt O'Riley, 24 years old, Danish midfielder (or rather, all-rounder): the chosen one to replace Teun Koopmeiners. In other words, the conditio sine qua non to close the soap opera of the Dutchman's arrival at Juve, ready to offer a total figure of 55 million to secure the player for Motta. The last obstacle is precisely Atalanta's need: to first be certain of being able to count on the player deemed most suitable to fill the gap of giving up Koop. So in reality the obstacle is Celtic's resistance, despite Atalanta having come consistently close to the will of the Scottish club, which for O'Riley, its most representative player, is asking for a global figure - bonuses included - of 29 million: the latest bid has brought the offer to 27 million, so in the next few hours there is confidence that the deal can finally be unblocked. Another partial impediment has been, up to now, the competition of Brighton, willing to accommodate Celtic's requests: strong in this, still lacking in the response. But Atalanta has an important ally: the player. Who has put the transfer to the Nerazzurri, with the possibility of playing in the Champions League, at the top of his wishes and this too is considered an element that leads to cautious optimism that the situation can be unblocked in a short time.

Needs to be concluded soon to give enough time as possible for a replacement. As knowing us we will need every single second.

  12. We should really be wanting £25million, £5million in add ons that are guarenteed like if he ever plays in a final for them or qualifies for the CL or plays over 50 games or whatever plus 10% of what they sell him for.

Go to want in the end about £35million. Should never be going when we aren't going to get over £30million.

£25million guarenteed, £5million more in a year or two thats near enough guarenteed then £5million more if he is sold by them for like £50million+ at some point is acceptable.

Celtic have knocked back a fifth bid of £21.5m, plus add-ons from Atalanta for midfielder Matt O’Riley.

The Serie A club have been trying to land the Denmark international for over a month with previous bids of £14m, £14.3m, £15m and £20m all rejected by Celtic.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has stated the club will not consider any bids until their valuation of the 23-year-old is met.

    This is ridiculous :giggle1:

Surely we have told them a price point? That's what's bewildering to me. Seems so *.

Why are we even entertaining this now?

They're clearly offering derisory bids in the hope that O'Riley becomes unsettled and we have no choice but to accept.

Can see them doing this over the next week or so and we cave in at £25m, which isn't enough as I've said countless times on here already.

We got £25m for a crocked Tierney 5 years ago.

Jota went for £25m last Summer.

O'Riley is better and has much more development in him, more than Tierney and Jota did when they left.

£30m up front with a sell on clause. No add-ons. If he is their number 1 target, we hold all the cards here. Need to act like it!

Luckily Lawwell is coordinating with them so we won't have time to sign a replacement.

This is what worries me is they slowly keep upping their bid until we finally accept it 10 seconds before window closes and we get nobody in to replace him.

This Belgian boy looks ready made but doubt he will hang around for us.
