Martin Dubravka

Discussion in 'Transfer Rumours' started by The Crow, Jun 10, 2024.

  1. Cowardly at the Ukraine winner and was almost beaten at his near post. Might be a one off though.

I don't think he's the answer. Got a good save in him but prone to an error and aging too.

  3. Bit off topic but as it is about Keepers.

I couldn't detail just how far away I want Rodgers to be regarding any hint of involvement in the signing for that position.

He can not be involved at all.

I know the EPL is overrated but there’s no denying it’s been a happy hunting ground for us and the Huns when it comes to keepers who are struggling with game time there and want a new challenge.

    The Champions
    Gordon
    Forster
    Hart

    Sevco
    McGregor
    Butland

I’d argue Dubravka would be coming here with a better recent record there then anyone’s recent record on that list when they moved to Scotland.

Obviously Hart was the biggest success in England but by the time he came here the general opinion was he was way past it

Gordon had no club (had spent 2 years as a free agent) when he signed for us and McGregor was playing in the championship.

Every GK has an error or two in them but there is only so much that they can do with the defence in front of them, Would rather have an experienced GK than another project.

Really hope there's nothing in this. He was fine last night but he constantly punches out crosses instead of catching them. He has that Barkas thing of being about 6'3 but looking 5'10 on the pitch.

And he's absolutely murder with the ball at his feet. A number of times last night he looked like he struggled to properly kick it long. A few were sort of shanked and went out for a throw in.

    Avoid.

I wouldn't mind signing him if we also had a decent younger keeper to take over but we don't.

Out of all the ones we've linked with I'm actually swaying towards the young one at Villa now

I’d be fine with that, would actually think it’s good planning

But signing Dubravka as our only option would be terrible. He’s average at best at the moment and is only going to decline with age.

Honestly? I'd take him, it's another stop gap but I think he's a terrific keeper with vast experience.

He's not my first or second choice out of the GK'S we've been linked to (I'd put the two Turkish keepers ahead of him) but I wouldn't be too disappointed.

Would be bringing in a younger GK alongside him, maybe the boy at Exeter?

    It's a competent enough signing, I think.

Hopefully it means we are looking at another, younger keeper to come in and play alongside him. The boy from Aston Villa would be a cracking signing for the future. Only 22 as well, i think.

Think he'll be great. I'd rather great and experienced vs young error prone and finally turning good and sold.

  20. I got the following from Newcastle online fan forum:

Feel like he was a decent keeper when he first came, but after a few shakey moments all confidence has gone and that's resulted in less confident Goalkeeping and generally him becoming a lot worse.

To some degree, I think Pope has also lost confidence since that Liverpool incident a few years back.

The thing with Dubravka is it's more evident. He's a fairly average keeper who was being made to look better under lesser management because we sat deeper and were generally shiter so he had to do more shot stopping. Now we press high and there's more need to be a sweeper keeper who can play the ball about he's being found out a bit. Has never really commanded his area too so suspect there's a lack of confidence from those in front of him.

Sadly (for him) I think his time is up. He put a loose nail in his coffin with the whole Man United thing too for most fans I suspect. Need a young replacement to come in under Pope (such as Trafford

Going by the above it really doesn’t fill me with confidence.
