Wow what a list of utter crap that is. :giggle1:

Most of those were worse than Hayes for sure but I still don't think he should've been signed.

Ken, when I started putting it all out it was a * me moment.

I wasn't super excited when we signed him but he was a standout for Aberdeen.

11 goals and 24 assists in 41 games the season before we signed him and 6 goals 12 assists in 42 the season before so had the numbers to justify it. I expected he would be the backup to Sinclair/ Forrest but never really found it there but transitioned well enough into a deeper role

JONNY HAYES is set to make a stunning return to Celtic after his exit from Aberdeen was confirmed.

The 36-year old had been offered the chance to stay with the Dons but the club have this afternoon confirmed he's moving on.

SunSport understands Hayes will now return to Celtic in a role working with younger players.

Hayes revealed towards the end of the campaign that he'd be retiring as a player.

The Republic of Ireland international was visibly emotional after his final game as he called it quits to focus on a coaching career.

Aberdeen had offered Hayes the chance to take on a 'senior full-time position' within the club's youth academy.

But the Pittodrie outfit have confirmed he's left to 'pursue senior coaching opportunities at professional level elsewhere.'

That opportunity looks to be leading Hayes back to Celtic, where he spent three years as a player between 2017 and 2020.

He'll return to the Hoops to take a key role working with younger players.

Celtic are looking to replace under-18 manager Stuart McLaren who left at the end of last year.

Last month, B team coach Darren O'Dea was also promoted into a new position of Professional Pathway Manager.

Hayes came through the youth ranks at Reading in the early 2000s

After spells at various English clubs, including Leicester City, he moved to Scottish football with Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2009.

He went on to spend the rest of his playing career in Scotland

Hayes inspired Caley Thistle to promotion to the top tier in his first season in the Highlands, bagging 10 goals in 35 matches.

He continued to perform well in the SPL and earned a move to Aberdeen in 2012.

Hayes was a key man for the Dons during a five-year spell, making more than 200 appearances in all competitions.

He was part of Derek McInnes' side that won the League Cup in 2014.

Hayes' continued good form saw him snapped-up by Celtic for £1million in 2017.

Although he never managed to hold down a regular spot in the Hoops team, Hayes went on to play 67 games for the Parkhead club and won three Scottish Premiership titles.

Hayes also won two Scottish Cups and two more League Cups as a Celtic player before being released in 2020.

His Hoops exit led to an emotional return to Aberdeen, taking a significantly smaller wage to return to Pittodrie

He would once again become a first team regular, adding another 145 appearances to his huge Dons total.

Following his retirement announcement, Hayes was given an emotional send-off at Pittodrie after the 5-1 thumping over Livingston last month.

And although Aberdeen offered him the chance to stay on in a coaching capacity, they have now confirmed his exit.

Hayes himself admitted his decision to move on was one that left him with mixed emotions.

He said: “It’s been a privilege to represent this fantastic club.

“I’ve been fortunate to have played in many important games, and of course, play my part in delivering a trophy for the fans, who have supported me incredibly throughout the years. I’ve always given my best, both on and off the field, and tried to uphold the values of Aberdeen FC.

I also need to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to begin my coaching journey within the youth academy. The experience has been hugely rewarding seeing the progress, development and success of the Academy as a whole over the last few years. Although development is always a priority, being involved with the under-16s winning their CAS League last year, along with the current U16s delivering success in the league and cup this year, demonstrates there is some top talent coming through to compliment the successful U18s squad.

“The future is bright for the club and although I won’t be playing at Pittodrie anymore, I’ll always be a supporter of the club and city and I wish everyone associated with AFC all the very best going forward.”

What's actually wrong with what he said? Obviously does have an affinity with Aberdeen.

    No even a joke man.

It's blatant and here's another appointment that is just typical of the years and years of the same *.

I've no doubt Hayes is a good player and probably a decent lad.
Youth level may not mean much to some and of course it's maybe where most coaches start out, but it's also not somewhere you just give jobs to for the lols.
If we started to actually take some pride and professionalism in this area, we may actually manage to coach through a decent generation.

Never fails to amaze me just how often the best man for the job at Celtic is always either an ex player or has a relative at the club. Just all a massive coincidence I'm sure

Is this really or is it what we focus on, do we talk about the likes of Jose Romero or
MIO KRIVOKAPIC - who’s font is different cause I needed to copy and paste the name.

Out of all the youth coaches, is it interspersed with former players that we’ve hired but not the majority? It is. And the ones we have, they tend to be more guys that had mentality.

And some shine. O’Dea is a gem apparently, we poached him to us as well. McManus… love big Mick but aye I’ve not heard much positive about him in that role, so fair enough. But he knows what it takes. So they’ll have as academy coaches, O’Dea, Mick, Hayes.

We have 27 Academy coaches. There’s 2 other former players in that btw. Can anyone name them without a google? I googled and found out them btw. 28 if Hayes joins, 27 current.

One of them is there bcoz he was his boss's favourite player and he just gets him to tell him stories all day long like some pathetic wee fan boy.

As for the other, only reason he is there is bcoz he's an ex player. Bcoz having worked with him, it's certainly not due to his coaching ability or his people skills. He's as * a coach as he was player.

There also an ex player working in gk department.

Add to that the numerous guys with links to Motherwell.

It smacks of jobs for the boys, wouldn't be such an issue if there was actually some success over McCarts near 20 years in charge.

What's the link to Motherwell about? That's where McManus came from isn't it?

Martin Miller still there? He was rated by those he coached from what I heard.
