Celtic are locked in negotiations with Sparta Prague for goalkeeper Peter Vindahl Jensen.

The 26-year-old stopper is high up on the Hoops' summer shortlist as they look to bring in a replacement for Joe Hart who officially retired after winning the Scottish Cup and Premiership Double. Jensen managed 47 appearances for the club last season having initially been on loan from AZ Alkmaar but Football Scotland understands Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of the player and hopes to entice him to Glasgow.

It is believed by Football Scotland that Sparta are loathe to lose the player after agreeing to sign him to a long-term deal upon the expiry of his loan but Celtic are keen to negotiate with his club in the coming weeks.

Jensen is contracted to a multi-year deal with the Czech giants and that means Celts would likely have to stump up a sizeable fee to get their man. But they remain interested and we understand he is one of the key targets the club have this summer


The 6ft 4in Dane is not yet capped for his country but has been named in numerous squads having played at under-21 level.

Rodgers has been linked with a number of goalkeepers since the end of the campaign already with the likes of Koen Casteels, Caoimhin Kelleher, Daniel Peretz and Asmir Begovic all name-checked

 

26 year old with less than 150 games to his name, wouldn't be me signing him. Wee bonus is he has played for 4 decent teams in 4 different countries though already.

 

He only just signed for Sparta permanently in March. So I'm starting to think yer man at football Scotland might be wrong again

Havent seen him since AZ, but wasnt too impressed by what I seen from him there. Neither were they, since he quickly got loaned out to Nürnberg in 2nd Bundesliga after his first season. As I said, havent seen what he done at Sparta.
Btw if I remember rightly he must have been on the bench against us.

We at Football Scotland exclusively revealed to you that Jensen, 26, is the Hoops' top target between the sticks to replace Joe Hart who retired at the end of last season. Brendan Rodgers' side will have to stump up to sign the Sparta Prague stopper who only recently officially signed a long-term contract with the Czech Double champions

But the club are hoping to press on as their interest remains despite that stumbling block. Now sporting director at Sparta, Tomas Sivok, has revealed what the Dane is like on and off the pitch and how his demeanour can change in an instant.

I have never experienced a person who was so different on and off the field," Sivok said. "Peter sometimes shouts like a madman on the pitch, shows his emotions, stands up for the team. And he probably doesn't even smile in the cabin.
