10+ goals is hardly a squad player.

The fact is you called him a squad player and compared him to Naylor as far as being over-rated.

Everyone else agrees he isn't a squad player and most want to see him starting either at striker or on the wing.

He will never "lead the line" but as a withdrawn striker he could be a great player if GS wants to keep the current wings. If not he would be great winger too.

Unfortunately for you it seems he's not going to be on the bench.

I am not a Maloney hater I am a Celtic supporter and wouldnt go against the club and manager. I am merely stating the SM is not a centre forward that is capable of being a proven goalscorer and he never will be!

He is a winger.... where atm i believe we are strong!

Unfortuately for me??? If Celtic do well im happy!

Winger primarily and a withdrawn striker second option(first Naka).

a squad player is all he is to small slow and weak to be a first pick centre and not in the same class as mcgeady to take his position

Nice how you go from comparing Maloney to Naylor, saying he is a squad player who shouldn't start, and posting how McGeady and Naka are both way better than him and now suddenly you agree with what people here are saying that he should be a starter.

I never disagreed that he is better on the wing. If GS wants to play McGeady and Naka on the wings though then I would rather have him as a withdrawn striker than on the bench.

Only 1 other person agrees with you that he is a squad player. Nice job trying to spin your opinion though.

There is no spin... i said before his best position is out wide, but i think atm we are settled with Naka and McGeady. I don't see SM- outwith injury- ousting either from the team for a sustained period! Furthermore i never said they were way better, i said they were better and perhaps more suitable to the way WGS wants to play!

WGS has said time and time again that it is not neccessarily the best players who will play, but the most suited! That is effective man management.

The comparison with Naylor was merely to highlight the fact that many players can have one wonderful season, the fact he was POTY 3 years ago means nothing now.... your only as good as your last etc...
    Squad players are back ups!

he doesnt look completly fit yet. hes best on the left. thats proven. i like the guy but hes not better than naka or mcgeady so its difficult thinking about where to put him. hes not a striker for sure.too weak and aint good with his back to goal.

he never won any headers? You being serious??

Of course he never. He's * 5' 7" playing against 2 guys over 6 foot.

This has got to be one of the stupidist comments if ever read.

It's not his fault the four stooogies at the back keep punting high balls up to him.

Football would b very boring with your logic, no small skillful played, no messi, no tevez, no owen, no kaka just big cloggers like cousin

I was making a judement on the partnership of Samaras and Maloney! Also i was judging Maloney as a centre forward, will we look for teams who have midgets as centre halves then play him up front. Football is a mans game, a contact physical sport!

Shaun Maloney is unable to cope with this... there are many smaller strikers who are able to cope with the physicality one of whom being Tevez. If you read the full thread instead of certain words and making up your own wee stories I have also said Maloneys pace doesnt compensate for his height, unlike Owen ans Messi- who in any case isnt a centre forward! Kaka is also a centre midfield player who can put the foot in when required you clown, have you bothered to read any of the thread??

I never said anything about my logic being route1 but Celtics plan for Sunday was clearly to try and put the ball over the defenders heads and make them turn... these balls were constantly cut out!

I hope you understand, if not maybe you can ask your teacher tomorrow :31:

You said he couldn't be a good striker. You said he wasn't a first choice winger.

According to this thread most people want him in one of those positions. Therefore you are in the extreme minority.:celt_2:

Thats why one of our best chance vs. Rangers was when Maloney finally got the ball at his feet. Thats why 2 of our goals vs. Falkirk were setup by quick passing between our strikers.

There are more ways to play football then kicking it to the wings and trying to score on crosses. Most of the players you mentioned ala Messi, Henry, Keane, Robinho, Kaka are good because they have skill and vision.

Seems the only players you rate are good in the air. Is Peter Crouch your favorite player by chance?:56:

At this moment 15 out of 43 think he is either a Back up striker 10 goals, Back up striker or a squad player this means that over 1 third believe him to be outwith the starting XI.

I did say he couldnt be a good striker yes, and his strike rate more than proves this.... Craig Beatties was is comparable to his and he is one of the worst examples of a footballer i have ever seen!

I said he wasnt a 1st choice winger and if you look at his last 6 months then you will also see that he didnt feature as regularly.

Sorry to let you know but 2/3 is a majority. Also if he features enough to score ten goals and by his general ratio that would be with 20 assists that would hardly be a squad player. In fact that would be better statistics than what McGeady had when he won POTY.

Does having POTY statistics make you a "squad player". Also so far he has featured in 100% of Celtic matches since he came back and looked very good at striker. Only statistic that matters to me.

By the way <10% think he is a "squad player"

No Peter Crouch is too awkward and lanky imo but thats just by the way eh?

Mate do you honestly think Maloney and Samaras were good together on Sunday??? Please tell me you are joking!!!

Players you mention ala Messi, Henry, Kaka are not centre forwards for crying out loud... they often exploit width with Henry in particular making a career out of dropping left!

Deary me :31: I have never said Route 1 football nor have i said get the ball wide. Here i have attempted to show why imo Shaun Maloney is not a centre forward who could establish himself on a high level.... and never will!

He is at his best wide, where he gets less physicality and more time with the ball at his feet. However, at this moment in time our wingers are doing their jobs, Shaun Maloney may get his chance but atm he must wait!
