If that happens then other long term posters should pull them up on it. All the folk that are on here long term want TC to be as welcoming as possible i think.

The good thing about TC is that the debate is fierce. Regular posters don't pull any punches. This might intimidate new posters but it shouldn't. It is just natural that stuff like threads that have been done 100 times before irritate the natives.

natives? where they born in the forum? :56:
they might aswell just accept it, its gonna happen as newcomers don't know the history of all threads on the forum. The only alternative is to put a block on newcomers joining.

I'd get shot of the post count beside everyone's username....it only encourages spamming.

I'd also enforce the spelling and grammar thing a bit more. I'm not suggesting infract people for genuine errors but there's a terrible laziness from some people, they just type up and post without checking typo's or whatever. The fact they get away with it 99% of the time won't encourage them to check what they've posted!

agreed..its not as if its a chat room. you have all the time in the world to spell correctly.a bit of grammer practice would maybe even do some people good.

I really have to agree here, especially with the first point but have to disagree with glasgowtim

Some people do think less of new members not because of the post count, but because the ones that go about making 10 threads that have been done before (in recent cases within the space of 2 days) usually have not A)lurked to get a wee look at the place and get the general feel of the forum or B)Read the rules.

People who come on and go over the top with thread creating would annoy anyone..but im talking about people who don't. People would need to "lurk" for a * of a long time to be sure that their thread hasn't been done before...also not everyone has the time to lurk for ages before they can express their views on the forum. What specific rule are you refering to about creating threads?

Or they could use the "search threads" function thats right beside the new posts button.

Well that would be ideal but realistically its never going to be the case that everyone searches the the forum for similar threads before they post theirs.. unless *, "rangersmedia" like rules are enforced.

Well, if we think people havent tried hard enough we will lock threads. If the person still hasnt learned and keeps making these errors, we will infract/ban them.

When did "infract" become a better word than "warn" or "caution"?

I smell a creeping American influence...

Warning is less than an infraction, 3 infractions and you'll be temporarily banned

We dont have to warn/infract either. We use that if we feel that a post doesnt merit a ban on its own

even when you use the search feature, its still hard as *.

trying to find a thread from like 5 months ago, and when you search, the whole page is threads from about a week ago.

its pretty complicated when searching, also as people have said, i would remove the post count as well, its pretty intimidating for new members lol.
