Josip Juranovic and Christopher Trimmel share a kind of job at 1. FC Union on the right-hand side. It can be heard that the Croatian international is not entirely satisfied with his playing times. Basically, he feels very comfortable in Berlin and at Union, which is why a departure in this transfer period seems rather unlikely. Nevertheless, clubs from the Premier League, including Fulham FC, have already signaled an interest in the 28-year-old.

    * * didn't realise his team are rock bottom of the Bundesliga. What a difference a year makes.

I was listening to a podcast about them recently and apparently their performances last year weren’t that much different to this year.

Although they finished 4th, their stats predicted position in the table last season was 12th and this season so far would be 13th
    On stats prediction.

They apparently play a very defensive and passive style of play out of possession and mainly attack on the counter. A few injuries to key players has held them back too but even though they came fourth last year their average xG was less than one a game. They just had a season where they were clinical with their chances and kept it tight at the back. That isn’t happening at either ends of the park this season so far mainly taking their chances.

This is where stats don’t tell the full picture, they were excellent last season and they’re * this. And that’s based on a few games I’ve seen of them over the 2 seasons. Table never lies.

Don’t get me wrong I agree stats are not everything but I guess what they are saying here is that they were good based on fine margins where if there is a little slip in performance in-front of goal or at the other end the outcome can be drastic.

Points out the obvious quite often but I guess it shows how fine margins can be between things going well and them not.

I imagine that depends on the stats you’re looking at, can’t imagine ones like putting away chances and seeing out games are the same.

This would be based more on the quality of opportunities they create and concede when it comes to expected metrics.

Essentially all it is saying is the difference between the quality of chances they are creating and conceding last year to this year isn’t massively different.

The difference is Union aren’t taking them and their opposition are this season/ their keeper isn’t saving as much.

In simple terms it suggests they won a lot of tight games last year and have lost those games this year but overall they will have had a similar quality of chances to score and conceded a similar quality of chances against them.

That’s a massive metric for me, ruthlessness infront of goal and the desire to not concede is what football boils down to at the very heart of it.

There’s been some Celtic teams that we’ve seen create loads but you don’t think they have the minerals to take the chances, and you know that we might concede just the one chance a game but that one we’ll concede if it’s tight and we all know it. Mowbrays team was that, Lenny’s Covid Season was that. WGS last 6 months losing his 4th title from a position of strength was that.

A lot were making a lot of chances, a lot of shots on target, weren’t conceding loads of chances but we would not score and the chances conceded would result in a goal, especially when it was a goal that could turn a draw into a loss or a win into a draw. Then we’ve seen the ones that make 1/2 chances a game and take them, and won’t concede even when we offer the Chances

Leeds United are one of a few Premier League sides considering a move for former Celtic star Josip Juranovic.

Juranovic moved to Celtic Park back in 2021, playing 53 games for the club before he was then sold to Union Berlin after two seasons.

In between those moves, Juranovic almost joined Manchester United in 2022 under Erik ten Hag, a deal which ultimately fell through before he later went to the Bundesliga.

Back in the Premier League, Leeds will be striving to improve the squad available to Daniel Farke next season, attempting to avoid a relegation fight.

And now former Celtic man Juranovic has landed on the club’s radar, a 29-year-old who has earned 39 caps whilst playing for Croatia.

That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Leeds are one of four Premier League sides interested in Juranovic.

Fulham, West Ham United and fellow-promoted side Burnley are also showing interest in the right-back.

Juranovic is predominantly known as a right-sided defender, however he’s proved at Union Berlin this season that he’s also capable of playing on the left.

The Croatian’s versatility is believed to be extremely appealing to the English sides interested in his signature in the coming months.

Juranovic himself is keen to play in the Premier League and convincing the former Celtic man to head to England shouldn’t be an issue.

Leeds themselves are already looking at a number of deals this summer as part of their recruitment drive

In terms of Juranovic’s credentials for Leeds, his former manager at Celtic Ange Postecoglou spoke very well about the defender before he left for Germany.

Speaking in 2023, Postecoglou said he had ‘loved’ working with Juranovic who had been ‘fantastic’ for Celtic.

Postecoglou said: “I think he’s been fantastic, I’ve loved working with Josip. He’s been a really popular member of the dressing room.

“He’s been a key contributor last year to what was a very, very important season, in the context of what had happened the season before.

“The fact we had to rebuild the team and get back to where we wanted to be, he was a key component of that.”

Thought he would be in the mls or something by now, not being linked to an EPL side.

To be fair I think he has a decent agent so might just be noise. Might still end up in the MLS.
