One I’ll get slaughtered for this: Josip Juranovic is the most overrated player we’ve ever had.

He was a player, very talented, was good yes, was a buzz and a laugh as well but I think he thought, probably rightly, he was better than Scottish football but he didn’t show that he was in general for us.

He had 2/3 assists as a very attacking full back in a very attacking team with one of the best strikers we’ve had creating tons of space up top for simple set ups. Doesn’t need to special just competent, he always had a lazy end product in that aspect for me. Assists and goals (penalties aside), key pass wise in his time Ralston absolutely was levels above, stat wise factual That. Greg Taylor had better end product assists, goals, and key passes and was absolute key in the inverted role for us.

Juranovic could and should have been better than them all and uncomparable, and a devastating loss for us. However he wasn’t because he wasn’t really effect, he was positionally very good, was competent and wouldn’t make mistakes. Had a swagger and a technique that masked his output on the pitch.

To an extent that I much preferred him with fire in his belly winning us over on the wrong side of the pitch for him at LB than when he nailed his place down.

And from his comments since leaving, I think he knew Ange was bringing a guy in to replace him and he’s stated that’s why he left. He’d be on the bench if he was still here and AJ was fit. There’s no contest between the two for me.

and yes inspired by @Callum McGregor thread on right backs. That has a lack of Adam Matthews mentions, like me as well, but he deserves one or two mentions at least

 

Honestly, and I really think this is biasness aside the two best slide tacklers I’ve wvwe seen are Didier Agathe and Naingollan.

There’s another I can remember being amazing at France 98 at it as well but can’t for the life of me remember who, maybe Thuram I think but I can’t remember that being a stand out Thuram thing any other time

 

Funny you say this btw, my mate always compares him as the defensive counterpart of Samaras. A lot of big games that you’ll remember him doing brilliant in, forget how much you were screaming at him against Dunfermline or Caley Thistle though because of that.

I went for denial immediately then thought aye can remember always screaming at him just knock it by him and run ya shitebag. After his leg break he was terrified of a tackle.
