Without a doubt takes the team to another level. Actually think he’d be quite suited to the league too.

Surely we can get inventive with the package. The money is there but we won’t shell out £12m as a base fee. Lower the base fee and dress it up with performance based bonuses.

    To
be fair mate that’s a long time and only a couple of examples. I suppose we can manipulate things to suit any agenda.

Or for once we speculate to accumulate rather than getting left behind feeding on the bread crumbs. We paid 9 million for edouard in 2018.

We've missed out on players in the past, or signed the wrong ones absolutely, nobody has denied that, but so has literally every team in the world, really don't get why some of our fans act like we're so uniquely bad in our transfer business, especially over the last few seasons. Past mistakes really aren't relevant to how our current recruitment/scouting built the last couple years are operating, which before the hysteria of the window kicked in most would agree are doing a good job.

Going all the way back to McNamara in 2005 is really reaching for negativity, might make some sense if it looked like we had important players contracts about to run out but we don't.

There's talk of a £12m pricetag - but Daniel Podence and talks with Celtic could come with some leverage over Wolves.

The 27-year-old winger is said to be on the radar of Brendan Rodgers as the Irishman looks to beef up his attack with Portuguese flavour ahead of a tilt in the Champions League. Jota has left a void in the Premiership champions' attack after his £25m move to Al-Ittihad and his countryman could come in to replace him, albeit the initial asking price set by the Molineux club is likely to see Celtic ask for a reduction.

Into the last 12 months of his deal already, a lack of available funds at Gary O'Neill's disposal could provide a Parkhead boost. The Athletic claim that Switzerland international Nico Elvedi is one of their targets but even though the Borussia Monchengladbach defender is keen on the move, "Wolves do not have the funds available to pay even the modest transfer fee — potentially less than £10million ($12.7m) — that it would take to land Elvedi."

They need to generate funds if a move is to get the green light. And it is suggested that "The two most likely sources of income remain defender Jonny and forward Daniel Podence."

Interest in both has been limited up until this point too. But a 'solution' on either front could see them attempt to sign one of their top targets in what has been a challenging summer, amid financial restrictions and Julen Lopetegui leaving his role as boss.

So it leaves a few windows of opportunity open for Celtic to try and strike a deal. They are also said to be interested in other Premier League men like Kieran Tierney, Eric Dier, James McAtee and Tommy Doyle.

From the record. Not going to lie, I wouldn't mind Jonny at left back either for a season or two. Always looked decent for them. Don't know how much they would be looking for. Podence deal does seem very possible though.

Fully agree mate try get a better deal than 12m if we are in for him at all! Was more just aimed at the ones not wanting to sign him because of age/price/wages but will moan about us not spending money.

I mean, you can do both.

I want us to spend money but I don't want us throwing money around when deals are clearly there to be negotiated. Especially when we could use additional money for other positions. Wolves want him to leave, he wants to leave. He's in the final year of his contract. If we pay £12m for him when we could have got him for say £8m, we've chucked £4m away. That £4m could have went towards another GK or LB. Spending £8m would be really good business. I don't really care about not being able to sell him in the future, I just want a priority position strengthened.

We do need to be smart with it though, especially when you're not working with unlimited funds.

Probably for £8m, plus add-ons to bring it to 10 if successful... Doubt they'd take less than half, in a country where * sells like gold!

Why's he out of favour at wolves and dropped from pre season? Is he significantly better than Fraser?

    In a word, yes.

However having not been one for fraser if we got Podence in I'd then not give a * if we signed Fraser as HG rotation and cover.

Id take Fraser as long as the conditions were massively skewed in our favour.

I can't see us spending anything over 7 mil for a 27 year old.

This is one of those i wont get my hopes up on untill Celtic confirm it. Spending 8.5 on a 27 year old dont feel like Celtic way of doing business. I would be delighted though as its * time we started buying in prime-age players.

It doesn't feel like Celtic, but the reality is not all players need to make a profit. If they win you leagues, get you further into Europe then they essentially pay off themselves. Paying 8.5m for him is really no worse than paying £2m for Shane Duffy for a season, bringing loans in for players we may not normally get but with huge loan fees. To be honest if he has a really good season we could actually make a profit for him next season.

Obviously doing it with all signings isn't the way to go but Nawrocki, Gus, Hatate, O'Riley, Abada, Yang and AJ are all players who could easily make a huge profit in the next couple of years.
