Rodgers and the current squad

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by RalstonFanClubPresident, Jun 13, 2023.

  1. Based on his previous spell as manager, create a Rodgers best 11 from the current squad (returning loan players included)

Of course there will be significant incomings and outgoings, but forget that for now. Would be interesting to know how differently people see him utilising this group compared to Ange.

So how does he set up, who does he play?

  2. Don't really know much about the Leeds players, so hard to say.

  3. From the current squad?

    Same as Ange's.

  4. He ain't going to Leeds

  5. Abada over Maeda?
Cal as a sitter or further forward?

  6. Sorry man. I was being deliberately short due to the prospect of Rodgers actually returning.

I dont even think tactics will be a surprise but In terms of starting xi it will be the same strongest side that Ange put out though the pace of play will be much slower in the build-up compared to Ange's side. Back to being a snorefest in comparison.

  7. I think with Rodger’s history of improving players i would expect Abada and Jota to move up a level , but I think one player who would massively improve would be Oreilly ,

On current team I think Rodger’s likes to play with two less attacking midfielders which will be calmac and hatate but I think Oreilly would become even more of dangerous in attack due to covering less ground than he probably is used to under ange. The option is there to swap hatate and orielly during games giving one a breather

sadly I think one who might struggle with Rodger’s is Taylor , I think coming inside as a midfielder really suits his game and I think he may struggle as a player hugging the touch line.

anyone think a loan deal for KT could be a goer if no one takes him ?

  8. Rodgers would no doubt improve Jota and Abada to *-tier level.

One interesting fact is that he often wanted a big striker like Eddy or Dembele, but he used Vardy at Leicester who is tiny. Hope Kyogo works out as good as under Ange.

I think Rodgers could do a job with most of the players but I still wouldn’t mind some big sales to bring in huge amounts of cash and reinvest in the squad

  9. I think guys like Abada and O'Riley would go up another level under Rodgers.

  10. We'll forget how to defend from set plays.

  11. CCV and Starfelt will handle that no problem. Hope we can keep them though.

  12. I think Iwata could be excellent under Rodgers.

  13. I remember Rogers saying how under rated Calmac was so I think he knows a player. I think he's a winner so it's a no brainer.

  14. I think there could be a slight change from what Rodgers did previous, I think that he will see a new intensity that wasn’t there before, a new level commitment that he didn’t have from some players, remember he had to push players who were not as physically capable as the group we have now. I also think the passing backwards for 10min won’t be as prevalent as last time the players now look to see more willing runners go beyond the defenders for that in behind pass.

I think Rodgers could really amplify the team and take the players up a notch, it maybe that he will adapt his tactics to supplement the way we play now and add a level of skill that’s missing for the bigger games.

  15. Hart
AJ - CCV - Starfelt -Berni
    Iwata
    CalMac - Hatate
    Abada - Kyogo - Jota
Got a feeling that he won't fancy Taylor and he'll try to work a miracle with Berni (* no doubt be trying to speak Spanish to him).

Also think he'll want to play CalMac in a more attacking role so Iwata might feature a lot.

Can see MJ coming back and getting game time too.

  16. He'll use a 4-2-3-1. If we have departures in midfield (O'Riley, Mooy), Turnbull's career may resurrect.

  17. There's no way he's coming to us if Leeds want him.

  18. Leeds are poison and no guarantee they would be getting out of that dog fight of a league! "The Riley McGree Championship" will be strong next season.
