english perceptions

just a few points really

im english by birth and grew up in london
a freind of my brothers was just round and they started arguing my brother saying old firm is the greatest derby his freind saying it was millwall west ham (lol)

so anyway then he started slating us saying aiden was "nower near as good as agbonlahor downing bentley luke young or james milner " and "about as good as " a hull or west brom player"

he said he saw dundee united at the weekend and thought they were worse than a conference team (he is being deadly serious aswell)

he was saying any side we play are worse than league 2 and thats the only reason "rubbish" players who paly for us get any reputation or respekt

he said we would be relegated in the EPL and are a smaller klub than west ham - newkastle and man city

i was getting so heated i nearly threw a punch at the little * ( hes 16)

the point is how annoying and frustrating it is supporting the bhoys and being down south hearing the konstant * peopel talk about the scottish game

i know thers other english people in here and was wondering if they feel the same way and get into similiar arguments

the thing is that english people really do feel we are a * klub and a woeful team and i doubt people in skotland fully understand the outrageous
perceptions peopel down here got of us and the skottish game in general

just fukin winds me up and i am ALWAYS arguing with people about it!

 

Im from London but have a very Scottish family. Every time they say We're * i sa wait and watch the big games then. We beat Milan and man u and they still say we're *. So theres no winning with them. What do they expect, us to beat milan 5-0 before they say we're good? It is annoying but it is pleasing when we do get recognition. They only really give compliments to boruc and nak, which shows how much they know as they dont mention mcgeady or robbo and various other great peformers.

 

aiden is alot better than all those players listed.
christ villa fans LOVE shaun maloney, but we all claim aidens miles better?

 

dont worry about it the day big english teams like man city roll over elitist teams from denmark we can all start worrying . outside the top four the rest wouldnt last two minutes in champions league . europe is the yardstick in football .

You slate the players more than some peopl down South do, so relly you should be able to handle it.

 

Mainly ignorance. Not just in football. There still exists this perception in England that England is the bees bollocks and then they go to Denmark and Germany and Holland and see how much better everything is.....but most still wont admit it.

Same with football.

i say a hoops player is good and they say " if hes good why isnt he playing in the EPL then " and would konsider a transfer to reading as a step up !!!

As others have said, Europe is the yardstick and we have turned over some major forces on our pitch, no one can deny that, its fact.

don't see big square jaw playing for any top teams. infact has robert green even got one champions league game to his name? no.
don't remember milan coming out and saying "we simply can not afford robert green" either.

* he played for norwich till just there.

this is why i want an english team every year in the CL.

 

id try my heart out for the hoops and still be a FUD its not about effort its about not being talented enough

I was in the Army for 14 years, with a lot of English and now live in Lincoln. I have heard this pish for years ! Just remind them how we disposed of Blackburn and Liverpool on the way to Seville, also Manc U in the champions league. The problem is the mid table mediocre teams in the EPL receive so much * TV money now that they can outspend us no problem ! So they pay over the odds for everyone. I have always said give us a few seasons in the EPL with the money that goes with it , and our history, stadium and fans and Man UTD, Chelski and Arsenal would be * themselves. Its those mid table to bottom teams who don't want us there because they know it would mean one of their dross teams going into the Championship.

 

I'd say the other teams in the SPL ARE about division 1 standard. Thats a fair statement. These days money = quality & the average attendances and turnover of these teams is 3rd tier English standard and the quality follows.

As for the fiercest derby - the OF is dilluted by the ridiculous early kick offs, the & by the fact we play 4 times a year...so a Wet Ham-Millwall game might well be more intense than your average OF. But overall the OF is the greatest derby....in special circumstances like the 3rd one last year when it meant something and it was a late kick off it blows everything else out the water.

 

i am a celtic fan, from Scotland, and i dont think we would be do well in the EPL with our current squad at all - of course not - what EPL teams spend £3 million in a summer? None of them...
id say we are about as good as Middlesborough... we beat Blackburn and Liverpool under MON when we actually had a properly strong team... the crowd at home in europe is what lifts us up a level, away from home you can see how * we really are.

And on that point... where league do you honestly think Kilmarnock & St Mirren would be in England? id say maybe league 1, prob league 2. Got to remember that the Championship is the 3rd richest league in the world (behind La Liga & EPL)

 

Jpr - I play football in pboro and i am always having to listen to the pure * of some folk in clubhouses after the games, some are really quite honest and say that we are a good side and more than hold our own in their league. Others however, they just take the * out of who were playing, saying its a mickey mouse league! Then i always get the question " why are you playing in that league then?" er because were a scottish club! and they turn to look at you all funny and they say " you should play down here" thats the sort of conversations you can have with some of the clowns down here! Its a lot different when we get a good result in Europe and they respect you but when you dont win in the league you get slated! I never listen to the clowns bcos im proud of my team and their all just jealous arseholes!
