Rewatching The Sopranos for the second time just now and honestly it's hard to argue against it. The writing and acting is just phenomenal. It's got to be that or The Wire. But The Sopranos probably nicks it because of the humour.

..Followed by Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul and Succession.

Controversial but i could not really get into The Wire. I have seen season 1 and half way into season two but i can't seem to enjoy it :fear:

Season 1 was decent, but when it felt like you start to like the characters, the season was over and a completely new storyline begin for the next one.

It all ties in eventually. Worth sticking with.

I hated S2 at the time. I look back now and realised it tied the whole thing together.

Need to play the long game with The Wire. Pay off is worth it though.

It will probably be near the end of season 3 or start of season 4 before you realise season 2 was essential but the epiphany is profound :giggle1:

One thing about The Wire, it doesn’t spoon feed you the story.

Some of the humour in The Sopranos is brilliant but it’s amazing how much the world has changed in the 20 odd years since it was made. Some of the stuff just wouldn’t be allowed these days- especially some of the cracks about Vito after he’s caught out :56:
Sky even have a warning now at the start of some episodes now about it containing “outdated views that some viewers may find offensive”.

That's the sad thing. The Sopranos, while it can be offensive at times, is a brilliant portrayal of that subculture in New Jersey and their outdated views. It's meant to be hard to watch. David Chase is a liberal apparently and he's highlighting how backwards and hypocritical all of the characters are. He's not glorifying it.

Without the dark humour it wouldn't be the classic television show it is.

Yep. Anyone who thinks a show like The Sopranos is glorifying the mob is a * wet wipe.

    2) GOT (Excluding Season 8)

Just re-watched Detectorists. Not necessarily the 'best' series I've seen but in terms of being able to relax me and help me switch off it's second to none. Beautifully written and acted and gorgeously shot. I think a lot of times a persons favourite song, book or whatever isn't the best they've come across but for various reasons it's still the one they hold dearest to their heart.
