Ange Postecoglou

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by Mr. Slippyfist, May 29, 2021.

  1. He is the man for the job and a great ambassador for the club, isn’t above criticism but * me I wouldn’t have anyone else in charge right now!

  2. Feel like he sounds a bit rattled on the radio there. Hoping he picks us back up ASAP.

  3. Yeah ur right, he's dropping deeper which in turn makes his risky passes far riskier as he's trying them 10 yards deeper with more players around him.

Aye just seen them again. Taylor one falls to wrong guy, he's probably last player you want that falling too. Kyogo should do better but I think he mite have been offside. Maeda one is poor, he's in too early, times his run better and its a simple header (we'll it is for most players).

  4. If the players bury the chances, nobody is talking about the tactics or the system.

  5. He needs to change his tactics and formation in Europe.

It’s not working, it’s showed now last season and now this season.

We are being hit every-time on the counter.

  7. The most visible display of frustration in his time as our manager at the end of the game tonight.

He has a way of playing and he’ll stick to it. It’s exciting and it creates loads of chances, even at the top level. He can’t however manually stick the baw in the net so all he can do is continue on the road we’re on and try and get better players in crucial positions as we move forward.

  8. Lord give me strength.

  9. Don’t even think the system had much to do with it tonight, our press was poor and disjointed but don’t think we were as wide open as last week.

It’s very hard to account for players missing the quality of chances we have in this campaign, wouldn’t be exaggerating to say we’ve squandered 10 huge chances across the 4 games which 9/10 when against us results in a goal.

  10. Yep, but I feel missed chances has been a far bigger issue so far.

  11. Tonight was more than just about missing chances. The first three games I think we have played well and missing chances has been the biggest issue. Not tonight though, where we were totally outclassed. The press and intensity we played with against Madrid and Shakhtar is nowhere to be seen now. Our squad that we all thought was very strong now looks very vulnerable.

  12. One thing I'll say about Ange is, he continually says we have many wide players, all of whom have different attributes. One thing none of them have, however, is the ability to go by a full back and cross a ball in from the byline.

  13. Absolutely right. Creating the amount of chances we have done at this level is not an insignificant thing. Of course ultimately it's about winning these games and progressing, but that can only happen if we're clinical.

The away game against Leipzig was more concerning for the number of times they had a free run at our back four. That's system-related. Though I thought that for the most part that was addressed tonight. The game opened up when we were losing, which is to be expected, but for the most part we limited them. But the chances they did have, they despatched ruthlessly. Hart didn't have a hope of saving either. That is the difference, and has been the difference, we need to address.

Imagine if when the goal opened up for O'Riley second half, instead of hitting it directly at the keeper in the centre of goal, he clinically places it in either corner. Or GG scores that glorious chance set up by Forrest's cross. Like you said, nobody would be pointing to the system because we would/could have won the game.

He has to realise the limitations of the squad and/or adapt to our opponent. Im sorry but we are veering back into Rodgers territory here. We can high press until the final whistle but if we dont have the quality to make it count then we have to find other ways to win.

  14. We didn’t press high at any time tonight. Not with any real intensity anyway.

  15. “Ifs” mate this isnt an isolated event now.

Theres a recurring trend which you cannot ignore. We got lucky on Saturday. We were a baw hair away from quite a different mood tonight.

Its not necessarily about dropping the system, but we can still implement subtle changes and tactics into our set up.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

  16. I seen is forcing turn overs high up in their half in quite a few occasions.

  17. Our press has been pish for a wee while now..

Probably since the first half against Madrid..

One goes and the other's don't or a couple go and we're bypassed easily and the midfields wide open..

It was good for about 5 minute's or so late in to the first half..

It has to be fatigue. The player's look shattered more noticeably and earlier on. Our play overall at the minute's a bit slower than before..

  18. We could play like Lennon, sit back with 11 behind the baw and get beat 1 or 2 nil, whilst creating nothing.
Ange has us creating a * ridiculous amount of chances, it's not his fault the forwards can't score.

For me, he needs to drop his favourites for a while though. Kyogo, Daizen, JJ, Mooy all need time on the bench, until they get their act together.

  19. His interviews are starting to become very much like Lennon, repeating the same pish constantly. “very disappointing” “take ya chances” “we need to take our chances”.
