Aye those two positions seem to be on everyone's wishlist. Hopefully the club recognise this too. I'd have extreme fear going into the start of the season without back up to the injured Starfelt particularly.

We saw today that Jullien and Lawql just can't cut it.

Sounds like we are close so I'd imagine we will hear soon..

I've a feeling they could be proper left field like Kyogo because we haven't had a sniff of a rumour..

That's the thing, there have been zero rumours which can only be a good thing. Recent links have been rubbished. Just hope the young lad from St Mirren isn't included in his 'few'

Ange Postecoglou insists he isn't interested in bringing a physical midfielder to Celtic this summer.

The Hoops are midway through their pre-season fixture list having returned from their training camp in Austria earlier this week. Following their games against Wiener Viktoria, Rapid Vienna and Banik Ostrava, Postecoglou's men returned to Celtic Park yesterday where they drew 2-2 with English Championship side Blackburn Rovers in a friendly.

The manager is still keen to improve his squad further this summer following the arrivals of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota on permanent deals, and Alexandro Bernabei and Benji Siegrist. However, despite the manner of the goals Celtic conceded in yesterday's game, Postecoglou having a physical midfielder in his Hoops squad would not be his style. He said: "Nah, it's not my style. Our role is to dominate games in a collective sense. Blackburn are a big, physical team, but in the first half I thought we played really well and handled them no problem.

"When we are playing our football and moving the ball around, we don’t need to rely on that side of the game.

"We have players who can be physical in their own way.

"One of the goals was a set-piece and the other one was after 30 seconds. It is part of the process of where we are at.

"I still thought our reaction to conceding was really good, especially in the first 45."

Not going to lie saying he is not in for a physical player concerns me massively.

It’s a thing we are missing in the middle of the park.

Grim if he truly believes that..

I get his philosophy and us being better on the ball will more often than no win out....but it's so obvious when we're countered or roughed up a bit..

We can be overrun and bullied at time's. Central midfield turns in to ghost town when team's break on us and our defence can be got at..

Friendlies or no.....the warning signs are there and have been there before..

Not liking those comments. You might not need a physical presence if your midfield is full of world class footballers who can pass teams to death, but we're not good enough on the ball to get away with it.

    Me niether.

Even some of the best teams at passing/pressing have their midfield generals.

    Kante
    Casemiro
    Kimmich

Obviously said player doesn't need to be a 6'4 brick shithoose, but...

Aye, and Guardiola has relied heavily on Fernandinho and Rodri in his time at City.

Would be criminal not to get in a tough, aggressive defensive midfielder.

If Ange said we didn’t need to play with a goalkeeper I’d believe him.

I’m guessing he’s just being coy with the media, there’s sticking to your philosophy and being an idealist but I wouldn’t even call it idealist I’d call it stupid, even peps teams have a certain level of power to them and he’s probably the most obsessed manager with his style of play on the planet

Busquets at Barca, also had Vidal, MArtinez and Rode at Bayern.

Makelele was the best I’ve ever seen and he was tiny. You just need a player in there who knows how to read the game. Kante/Kimmich are 2 good examples.

Then you have the bigger guys who can play. Fabinho/Busquets/Rodri.

I still think we need a physical player though. Someone like a Souza. I just had a feeling we wouldn’t go down that route and we would attempt to get a better ball playing midfielder. Especially with the Vera/Michut links.

Our defensive record was good last year domestically but we all knew we could be better there..

Set pieces are a big thing in football. It'd be nice to have a couple of guy's outwith maybe Jackie and Carter-Vickers who were beasts in the air....in both boxes actually. We score from some, but with how many corners and freekicks we get around the box....we should be scoring much, much more..

Just get a couple of pacey, tenacious *'s who will bully people..

A centre half and 6. Be annoying if that isn't addressed and we just go for guy's who are solely comfortable on the ball..

If you’re going to dominate teams at any sort of decent level you simply can’t give the ball away as much as we do and in the positions we do while having everyone bar the keeper and 2 CB’s ahead of the ball.

That’s even if we sign a physical CDM.

Using an absolutely terrible Blackburn team who walked through us at times isn’t a good example either.

It was said that Guardiola realised very quickly in England he couldn’t play a team without physical players and be successful in the EPL so he went out and bought some.

Again not all giants but guys that had good physicality as well as football ability. If we are to go to the next level I think we need a few players that fit that. Both our CB and CM need to fit that mould and if we bring in another forward pace and/or physical presence are things that they need to have.
