Daizen Maeda

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Callum McGregor, Dec 31, 2021.

  1. He's probably still jet lagged. But seriously, he always seemed second to kyogo. He's fast and that will scare tired defenders late in a game.

  2. I think he’s a lot better than his last 2 games but he’s off it just now. Needs to get up to speed.

  3. I remember him being unlucky not to score against Alloa. But youre right, work in progress

  4. Thought he was poor but it's still early days

  5. Not been great, but needs time to settle.

It's too easy to judge signings straight away. He'll be a star for us.

  6. Looks like he's struggling a bit with the physicality of Scottish football.

  7. Even if he's not an outright star this team isn't reliant upon exceptional individuals in the same way as previous teams. Ange has consciously put together a squad where the whole matters more than the individuals, and having exciting effective players who fit the system (like Maeda) coming in and out of the team is how we will be successful long term.

  8. He had a * game but what player doesn't he will come good. Not all players hit the ground running

He needs to be given time. He’s shown enough that he will be a good player in Ange’s system.

Even when he’s having a poor game like tonight he looked dangerous IMO.

  9. I'd like him to be a super sub who comes on after an hour or so against tired defenders who have had to deal with Giakomakis for 60 minutes.

  10. I think he's struggling with the heavier Scottish pitches. He won't ever have see the like of the Pittodrie swamp in Japan. Just before he was hooked he tried a backheel to set up (I think) Abada and screwed it up badly - not used to the conditions.

  11. Looks ok to me just a few shots/passes never came off that was the complete right call. Plus hes probably jet lagged still :fear:

  12. See even tho he missed a couple of chances, he was so important to our control of the game first half, never gave them a second and his runs opened up so much space. It's his clever run that opens the space for O'Riley for the second and he almost sets up Abada for a third with a great run and ball across the face.

  13. Think he’ll do just fine

  14. Behind Giakoumakis for me. Would have him coming off the bench for now

  15. Place is mental at times. One good game - what a player! One * game - donkey :56:

Wasn’t great last night but bar a bad touch or two and a very weak effort at goal he wasn’t bad. Looked a good tackle/save to stop him scoring in 2nd half and great run and assist for O’Riley.

  16. He's being compared to Kyogo and Hatate, both of whom had blistering starts here. He will come good, I'm sure.

  17. Id be playing him and GG at the weekend.

Looks a bit erratic.in front of goal but power of work and keeps defenders on toes.

  18. I keep saying this. These Japanese guys have just completed a full season in Japan they're likely running on fumes at times. That and adjusting to the freezing cold weather here will affect them for a wee while. We might not actually see the best of them until next season!

  19. This.
