Elsewhere, Middlesbrough are believed to have made a last-ditch offer to sign Riley McGree from under Celtic's noses.

But Record Sport remain confident the FC Charlotte midfielder will still become Postecoglou's fifth signing of the January window despite Boro’s best efforts

Sensible approach this mate cause ultimately we don’t know so it’s all speculation.

I think given the circumstances we’re in and the apparent parameters of the deal and the way it’s been reported, it’s probably the case that we thought this was a done deal with a fair offer.

I suspect he’s received a better offer from Middlesbrough and is considering accepting it or he’s trying to use it to get a better deal from Celtic.

I’m fine with either to be honest but since it’s such a short window and we need to know where we stand I would demand a decision and move on. We don’t really have time to go back and forth and while he’s clearly a good player it’s not like there aren’t other players out there.

Said it for while and in other threads and I hope Borobob sees this the spfl is a threat to English league 1 2 and the bottom half of the championship especially if we get a third team in European group stage football say it was hearts that got it that five- 6 million guaranteed telling me they wouldn’t be able to keep hold of players and up their wages with that sort of money or hold any club to ransom down south for players signatures rather than accept the a million pound bud here or their lower league clubs in England be spewing if we get a improved tv deal

I don't know why but I really wanted this player here. Definitely doesn't look like a world beater but possesses the qualities that we lack at the minute.

Saying that if his head has been turned by Middlesbrough then it doesn't bode well with me. It was the same with Giakoumakis, who, so far, has been the let down I thought he was going to be.

Is that an Aussie calling Wilder a progressive coach meanwhile ignoring Ange and his philosophy. Some of these people really are clueless.

Celtic is the better move, clearly. The Championship is a roulette at the best of times. Its a long slog of a season and there's no guarantees Boro will finish in the playoffs, never mind actually get promoted.

At least with Celtic we have a clear recent history of selling players to the EPL or other decent European leagues after a couple of years. It's a certainty that, if you do well, you will get a chance to move on to a better league. Our record of signing, developing and showcasing players speaks for itself.

Not to mention the little added bonus of winning trophies, playing infront of 60k fans most weeks, adoration from the support and playing European football.

    Yep. Complete and utter drivel..

I'd hazard a guess he's probably never even watched 90 minute's of Middlesbrough..

You're far more likely to get a big European move playing for us as you say, winning trophies and competing in Europe..

EPL side's are far more likely to buy first team ready player's from us that walk straight in to their side's. I can't think of many EPL side's that splash the cash on Middlesbrough player's to straight in to their side's?

    Bundesliga. Ligue 1..

He was getting worked up in his following tweet about getting called out for it. Hasn't got a scooby..

Im not too fussed, losing all these players at the same time due to internationals would be a right * pain.

Switch to european guys now, namely Wolff who id much rather prefer, loan with an option to buy.

Don't know about Wilder being a progressive coach. That seems to be the perception, but much of his innovative tactics like the overlapping CBs was meant to have originated with his assistant Knill. Besides, the season Sheffield United went down, they looked anything but progressive.

Done well to get them through the league's and survived a year in the league well..

His recruitment just summed up everything that is wrong with the game down here though..

Spent almost 50 million on McBurnie, Burke and Brewster. Signed some utter * from the championship..

It's no wonder they flopped bad after the first year..

Middlesbrough are in advanced talks to sign Australian midfielder Riley McGree in a huge blow to Celtic, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 23-year-old is understood to be on Teesside for talks and a medical after Boro made a breakthrough in talks with MLS expansion club Charlotte FC.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Boro have pushed the boat out for McGree as Chris Wilder is keen to bring in the defensive midfielder.

It is believed they have offered McGree higher wages than the personal terms offered by Celtic.

Ange Postecolglou had been confident of landing the midfielder before the Scottish giants were hijacked by the English Championship outfit.

The Australian has already been busy in the transfer window and was hopeful compatriot McGree would be the latest addition

Celitc have added Japanese trio Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate already this month.

They then want to add another wide midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

Postecoglou may also now look to bring in a new defensive midfielder as they look set to miss out on McGree.

The Australia international spent the second half of last season on loan at English Championship outfit Birmingham City but is under contract at Charlotte FC.

The MLS club kick off their inaugural season at the end of next month.
