Sevilla and Celtic are on the trail of Barcelona playmaker Marc Crosas after Olympique Lyonnais opted to not make his loan move to Stade Gerland permanent at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old midfielder was keen to stay in France for another season, but was instead recalled by Pep Guardiola and included in the squad for the trip to Scotland last week.

Sevilla have made their interest known and the club's sporting director, Monchi, and Barça's technical secretary, Txiki Begiristain, are believed to have discussed the player, according to Sport.

Communication between the two clubs is strong after the recent deals that saw Dani Alves and Seydou Keita move to Camp Nou and a deal could be struck if Crosas agrees.

It is unlikely that Barcelona will give up on the latest player off their production line to fill the creative position in the centre of midfield in the mould of Guardiola and Xavi.

Instead, the Blaugrana will allow Crosas to go back out on loan to gain more experience or be sold, but only with inclusion of a buy-back clause in his contract.

Celtic had scouts watching both of Barça's matches in Scotland, against Hibernian and Dundee United, and were impressed by what they saw of the midfielder.

Crosas impressed last term with Lyon during a six-month loan spell that saw him help the club win their seventh consecutive title, but an agreement could not be reached for him to extend that stay.

It is difficult to say if he could fit into Scottish football. But overall I think he's a bigger talent than Sno and could easily if anything work out, be a better option than Donati.

We need to get rid of midfielders before we bring more in. Especially a talen that may or may not make an impact. If we were to bring in another midfielder it would have to be someone who can make an immediate impact. I think this deal is a non starter unless we can give them gravesen for a year HA HA

totally disagree we need to get rid of donatti and gravesen before we need new midfielders, wot if we got injuries * forbid and we had to play gravesen and donatti then you would be moanin about how we didnt bring that young kid in from barca and so on, we all know they 2 are useless but still need players in who can do a job

Have you seen our list of midfielders? We have:

    Mcgeady
    Naka
    Brown
    Hartley
    Mizuno
    Robson
    Donati
    Gravesen
    Sno
    Mccourt
    Riordan

Now you tell me if we get 1 or 2 injuries we wont be able to put a strong midfield together

We also have good players coming through who could have a run out in the SPL

Get rid of a couple before you bring an untried and untested kid from barca who may after all be pants week in and week out in the big mans league

Couldn't agree more - some kid who is 5 foot 7 does not inspire me when it comes to grafting out a win at Tannadice on a winter's evening...

    No thanks.

Haha just reading through that list, it just shows how much dead wood we have!

Maradona is 5'7", as is Messi and Pele couldn't have been much bigger. It's not the size of the man in the fight....

You have just addressed 3 of the best players ever. Do you really think this guy is (or will ever be) as good?! No.

I take your point bud, i really do, but i prefer strong players for the SPL - for many reasons, but the ability to not get kicked to f^ck and miss every 2nd game is up there.....as is the prominence of the aerial game in Scotland.

Finally, how many sunshine players come here and do well? Not many...

It's not wise to make assumptions about his ability. He could be the next Moravcik for all we know. Barca obviously rate him, or they wouldn't include a buy-back clause. My only concern would be the lack of height we'd be sporting in the midfield. Other than Donati and Sno, I don't think we have a player over 6'. I do think we'd need to shift some players first though.

I never said i'd take Naka - in fact, i think he disappears in away games a lot of the time, and should be replaced.

And Donati is disappointing at best (i can think of far worse adjectives), and Sno will be a sub ( plus is hideous at heading a ball - almost as loose as his passing).

With some exceptions (Essien being a notable one), height normally is associated with strength with regards to footballers - so i don't understand how my previous comment of this wee kid not feasibly making a big difference in tight, physical games is so inaccurate?

Of course i agreed with the post with all the midfielders in it - even the f^cking village idiot would! Why, with 11 midfielders (none of whom appear to be going ANYWHERE) would we need a further addition?

Seems pretty simple to me dude!:50:
