    100%

His time was up at the club as a player but he should be respected as one of our most decorated players in history. Without his heider up to Eddie at Hampden who knows if we would have done the Treble Treble?

You’ve been heavily critical of him plenty of times though. My point stands anyway, * treat him like dug * when as @Seán Mac D says, he’s one of our most decorated players ever and die hard Tim.

He was probably my favourite player at the club for years. Loved the guy.

I was critical of him in his last couple of seasons, as was everybody else, because he wasn’t very good.

There’s being critical and then there’s being overly harsh. Everycunt knew he was done but the way some * went on you’d have thought he was a major flop.

There’s criticism then there’s being a wee *. A lot of people stopped the criticism and became wee *’s.

AIK Football agrees with Mikael Lustig on an agreement that runs until 31 July 2021 and the player joins on a free transfer. 33-year-old Lustig will soon join AIK Football and the work of getting him registered and ready to play by SvFF has begun.

It feels really fun to welcome Mikael to AIK Football. He is an experienced player with extensive international experience both at club level and with the Swedish national team. Mikael is also a leader who with his winning mentality will contribute on the football field and in the development of our young players. I am genuinely happy about the great will that Mikael showed to make this agreement possible, says AIK Football's sports director Henrik Jurelius.

    - I auditioned in AIK already in 2004 and it feels good that it finally gave results. The wait has been long, but now I'm finally here. I long to wear the black and yellow match shirt, says Mikael Lustig.

The acquisition of the player has been made possible by taking out loans from private financiers with two very large AIK hearts. The terms of the loans are linked to future surpluses from sporting achievements and transfers that AIK Football generates, which means that the solution does not burden the business's operations.

33-year-old Mikael Lustig, born on December 13, 1986 at Norrland University Hospital in Umeå, started playing football at the age of five in the mother club Sandåkerns SK from Umeå, where he played youth and junior football. In 2002, Mikael Lustig played his first senior match with Sandåkerns SK in Division 4 Södra in Västerbotten as a 15-year-old under the leadership of head coach Steve Galloway. Before the 2004 season, he changed club to Umeå FC who played in Division 2 Norrland and they also won the series nine points before the second IFK Timrå. Mikael Lustig played 21 league matches during the year, most in the team. In the qualifying game for the Superettan, Umeå FC faced Degerfors IF and Mikael Lustig started both matches. In the first meeting, Umeå FC fell at home at Gammliavallen with 0-1 and the return at Stora Valla ended 2-2 after the home team equalized in the 84th minute of the match. In July 2004, Mikael Lustig auditioned for AIK. In 2005, there were eleven league matches and a goal for him in Division 2 Norrland before he left the hometown of Allsvenskan Gif Sundsvall during the summer transfer window. The goal came at home against Friska Viljor FC (3-1) in front of 755 spectators at Gammliavallen on June 7, 2005 when he gave the home team the lead with 2-1 in the 63rd minute of the match.

On August 1, 2005, Gif Sundsvall's club manager Urban Hagblom announced that they had signed an agreement with Mikael Lustig that extended over 2008. The debut for Gif Sundsvall took place on August 22, 2005, at home against Assyriska FF (5-0) in the Allsvenskan in front of 5,828 spectators at The sports park in Sundsvall. Mikael Lustig played the entire match in jersey number 28 under the leadership of head coach Anders Högman and he was in the starting eleven accompanied by the former AIK player Hans Bergh. He scored the first goal for Giffarna against BK Häcken (3-0) in front of 5,290 spectators at Idrottsparken on October 3, 2005 when he determined the final result in the 80th minute of the match, and he also followed up with a goal in the series epilogue at home against Örgryte IS (3–2). The gifs ended at 13: e place in the table in 2005 and was thus relegated to the Superettan and Lustig played eight Allsvenskan matches during the autumn and was noted for two goals. In 2006 and 2007, there were a total of 57 league matches for Gif Sundsvall and five goals for him in the Superettan. In the autumn of 2007, Gif Sundsvall finished in third place in the Superettan and the club thus made a comeback in the country's highest league. In 2008, Mikael Lustig played 16 Allsvenskan matches and accounted for one goal before signing for the Norwegian club Rosenborg BK at the end of July 2008.

The debut for Rosenborg BK took place on 3 August 2008, away against Tromsø IL (0-4) in the Tippeligaen in front of 6,023 spectators at Alfheim Stadium in Tromsø. Mikael Lustig played the entire match as a right back in jersey number 2 under the Swedish head coach Erik Hamrén's leadership. In the same match, AIK's current goalkeeping coach Kyriakos Stamatopoulos sat on the bench as a substitute for the home team. The first goal for his new club he scored against Vålerenga Football (2-1) in front of 18,295 spectators at Lerkendal Stadium in Trondheim on 31 August 2008 when he, played by the Slovak Marek Sapara, accounted for the 2-0 goal in the 35th minute of the match. . Rosenborg BK finished in fifth place in the Tippeligaen during his first season at the club, 15 points behind champions Stabæk Football. In 2009 and 2010 Mikael Lustig became Norwegian champion with Rosenborg BK, In 2009 they finished 13 points ahead of Molde FK and in 2010 they were seven points ahead of Vålerenga Football when the season was summed up. In 2011, Rosenborg BK finished third in the table behind first Molde FK and second Tromsø IL. In November 2011, it was clear that there would be no continuation for Mikael Lustig in RBK and his result in the Norwegian club was 137 played competitive matches and 21 goals scored.

On 23 November 2011, Celtic FC announced that they had agreed with the Swedish national team defender on a contract for three and a half years starting on 1 January 2012. Celtic's Northern Irish manager Neil Lennon commented on the transfer with the words “We are delighted to bring Mikael to Celtic. We believe he has the qualities to make a real impact at the club. He is a player with international pedigree and a defender with great versatility. He is someone who I feel will be a very positive addition to the squad. ” The Scottish club made their debut in the 29th round of the Scottish Premiership when Celtic met Aberdeen FC (1-1) in front of 13,127 spectators at the Pittodrie Stadium in Aberdeen on March 3, 2012.

The first goal for Celtic came during his second season at the club, at home against Hibernian FC (2-2) in front of 50,000 spectators at Celtic Park in Glasgow on September 1, 2012 when he with a volley shot after a right corner gave the home team the lead in the tenth minute of the match. . It was a total of eight seasons with Celtic FC for Mikael Lustig and he played 273 competitive matches, scored 21 goals and he became Scottish champion during all seasons in Glasgow. On 21 June 2019, Mikael Lustig signed a three-year contract with Belgian KAA Ghent and their competitive debut took place in the second qualifying round of the Uefa Europa League on 25 July 2019, when they faced FC Viitorul (13-3) in front of 13,398 spectators at home at Ghelamco Arena in Ghent. ) from Romania. The series debut for KAA Gent took place in the second round of the Jupiler Pro League when they met KAS Eupen (6-1) in front of 17,780 spectators at Ghelamco Arena on August 4, 2019. KAA Gent finished in second place in the Jupiler Pro League 2019/20, 15 points after the series winners Club Brugge KV.

The Belgian league ended after 29 played rounds of the regular season due to Covid-19 and there was no playoffs. There were a total of 30 competitive matches in KAA Gent for the experienced Swedish national team defender during the 2019/20 season when, in addition to second place in the league, they reached the round of 16 in the Uefa Europa League against Italian AS Roma. Mikael Lustig played the entire match in the first meeting in front of 28,248 spectators at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on February 20, 2020 when the home team won 1-0 after an early goal by Carles Pérez. The return in Belgium a week later, with the Swedish hill on the bench, ended 1-1 and KAA Gent was thus knocked out of the tournament.

On October 13, 2004, Mikael Lustig made his debut for the Swedish J18 national team in the first qualifying round of the U19 European Championship against Liechtenstein (4-0), which was played in front of about 150 spectators in the Croatian city of Žminj. He was voted into the 'team of flops' for the Belgian first league.

And was then put into the reserves to train.
