Levein's comments make it sound like Hearts have no intention of dealing with us.

I hate hearts just as much as I hate sevco. I’m glad they got relegated!

Celtic have tried to sign Hearts' Aaron Hickey "five or six times", says former Tynecastle manager Craig Levein.

Hickey, 18, is in the final year of his contract at Hearts and has attracted interest from Bayern Munich, Aston Villa and Bologna.

The former Celtic youth player can play full-back and in midfield, with Hearts valuing him at £1.5m.

"Celtic tried to buy him back half-a-dozen times and that just got knocked back," Levein told BBC Radio Scotland.

"Celtic tried to buy him back while he was in the first team, I think it was five or six times."

Hickey has made 33 appearances for Hearts, scoring once, and the Tynecastle side, who have been relegated, begin their Scottish Championship campaign in October.

And Levein, who was previously Hearts' director of football, added on Sportsound: "He's got really good defensive qualities. He likes defending, which is a rare thing these days.

"He might end up going back into the midfield area. I think he'd be a fantastic holding midfield player with his great awareness of danger and his ability to get out of tight situations with the ball at his feet.

That Levein is one total *. Hickey would be low dollar/ low risk and one for the future

Levein hates Celtic, you can always tell and this is his way of getting a consolation goal while being 7 down at half time. I remember him saying Bayo didn't score, they were own goals. Nobody questioned them until then, he basically flushed 2 of his players down the swanny to screw over a Celtic player.

Agreed mate. Would defo be taking the punt. The fact Bayern see his potential should speak volumes.

The only thing I take from that Levein statement is what I already knew, Craig Levein is a bitter, clown who talks shampoo and sunk his own club.

I would take Hickey with a year left on his deal, so many teams circling and us due 30% of any sale I can’t see a deal costing too much.

BILD reporting that Hickey and our own Barry Hepburn are signing for Bayern.

I was gonna say we should've signed him but it sounds like the diets would've done anything but sell him to us..

The fact Bayern and a host of other's wanted him, shows the potential he has..

Will be a good player and another Tim that has likely slipped through our grasp..

I think they actually signed another of our top prospects not so long ago too. Bayern really rubbing our noses in it at this point.

Would be disappointed to miss out on him, especially for what is a relatively low fee.

I’m not saying he’d walk into our team just now, but he’s definitely got the potential to be a very good player in the near future.

Liam Morrison. Our best centre half prospect..

Barry Hepburn. A massively massively rated attacking mid prospect..

Now looks like they're taking Hickey from under our nose..

That's the one. That's unfortunately just the nature of things. I actually think we should be doing it, despite no liking the practice.

Another we let go too early, frustrating really but it’s hard to compete with Bayern with the facilities and everything they have.

Hope we are still pushing for a move, though he’s obviously looking about at all his options which is a smart by him, see what happens.

If I recall correctly, we didn't let him go; he turned down a new contract because he wanted to play first-team football.

Hopefully, he sees that he has a better opportunity of that with us than Bayern now.

Levein is everything that’s wrong with Scottish football, for the amount of “experience” he’s supposedly got, he’s got a fantastic record in harming our game.

Yea, he was getting in amongst it in the 2019 Scottish Cup Final too to be fair. He’s also had a maintained period of almost a year and a half now in the Hearts starting team despite his tender age, something which can’t be said for the “prodigy” that is Harry Cochrane.
