Was he in goal when we played them? From memory think their keeper had a blinder against us.

Vassilis Barkas is on his way to wear the Celtic jersey and take off that of AEK after the summer of 2016. The 26-year-old international goalkeeper managed to win the 2018 championship but also to play in Champions & Europa League groups .

Barkas achieved, in essence, his goals with AEK, while he also took a place in the National team since he is considered (even before the transfer) the main competitor of Odysseas Vlachodimos.

AEK loses its main goalkeeper but achieves the most expensive sale in its history.

This 5 million (net money, of which 750,000 euros go to Atromitos), plus the goal and participation bonuses (1-1.1 million euros is estimated) but also the 10% resale rate is something historic for the Union.

Barkas is now winning No. 1 in this category, far behind Socrates Papastathopoulos, whose transfer to Genoa had brought 3.8 million euros to AEK.

    TOP-5 OF AEK SALES

    1. Barcas in Celtic 6-6.1 (+ 10% resale rate)

    2. Papastathopoulos in Genoa 3.8 (resale amount included)

    3. Skulls in Anderlecht 3.5

    4. Kyrgiakos in Liverpool 3

    5. Katsouranis in Benfica 2.8 (plus income from a friendly in OAKA)

Big downgrade is a bit harsh. At least give the lad a chance. Yes Forster would’ve been the safe option but there’s no reason this guy can’t be as good for us.

One thing i don't like about European keepers is their persistence in punching at crosses and such like rather than catching it...

I love Forster and I think he's a good guy and a great keeper but I think barkas has all the talent to be just as good and a better asset which no doubt will be on lower wages and have massive potential for resale, also he's ares so unless someone comes in with mental money next year he's going no where, down the line we have hazard doohan and bit further down the line oluwayemi learning their trade, I'd say Forster is a bit sick of how he played it tonight but as I said at the time I wouldn't trust that hassenhutl fella as far as I could throw him and he changes like the wind. Forster to Leeds would make sense

If we have to play Boli in a game, Barkas may actually need to fill in at left back and just play without a keeper.

I don’t always see it like that. Too many fans think players * Celtic over but mostly they owe us nothing and modern footballers allow agents to run their careers. Dembele is a top example when fans turned on him and it turned out to be Rodgers. Forster done us proud for a few seasons and deserves credit and respect.

    Fully agree.
A lot of media/fans had Griffiths even out the door last week, now he is praised to the heavens by Lennon for his turn around.

Some times for me the simple explanation really is the best one - Griffiths simply just wasnt at the fitness, gets left to focus on that while the squad gets match sharp and learn to play together in prep for the quick start of the season - Griff gets an extra week to build back up. Yes disappointing, but it happens. The media and fan outcry was stupid.

Same for Forster, I believe everything he said last season and I believe he has repaid Celtic and then some over the years. Guy is going down as on of the two best keepers since Bonner. Chelsea turned his head a little, how strong those rumours are, you can't fault an English lad wanting to see what the noise was really about. Unfortunately for both parties, we don't have time to wait for this to play out.

Barkas (I hope?) comes in and we move on. Thank you Fraser, maybe see you in a couple years again

Some good reaction saves in there.
Looks like he can keep himself big for as long as possible and keep his footing to be able to shift if he needs to.

I see what some mean about his tendancy not to catch/smother a ball, could be an issue in a busy box, but I think Woods will change that if needed.
