How to * is this a viral world news story? A young girl wearing a symbol she probably knows nothing about and probably thinks it’s a Punk symbol that is cool. I do not have any liking or admiration for the * regime and would not be caught dead wearing any of its symbols. Is the next step to ban the images of The * Pistols or any punk images? Do we then try and write Hitler out of history or photo shop the pictures to remove anything deemed offensive? I think there is much bigger problems with the world that gets diverted from news reports.

Tbh a lot of Thais are completely oblivious to cultural things here and more so European history.

I suspect the girls don’t even know what it represents.

I’ve been to a few markets and found “swastika” branded stuff like towels and T-shirt’s

Wasn't that symbol a Buddhist thing before hitler reinvented it. Or atleast something that looks similar.

There was a Korean boy band who are hugely popular that wear * t-shirts as well, one even wore a Hiroshima bomb t-shirt on tour in Japan.

Think the swastika is some ancient Hindu symbol

'Swastika' means 'well-being', or similar, in Sanskrit. It goes back a long way in many eastern cultures and religions. I think the one the girl is wearing is fairly obviously a '*' one though, given the colour scheme. A fairly minor piece of ignorance in the grand scheme of things but any deliberate use of it is picked up as news. Which is why the cynic in me suggests that this was a very deliberate action of a manager somewhere.

There have been some rather amusing appropriation of Nazism in India. There is, or at least was, a member of parliament there called Adolf Hitler surname (I can't remember) and a clothing store that called itself Hitler's to get publicity. It certainly doesn't have the same connotations as it would here.
I'm sure there are a few Bengalis, and at least one Irishman, disgusted by things being called after Winnie Churchill over here.
