It’s not Dembele tbh, it’s a pattern of behaviour, maybe not for this thread..

 

The possible scenario in my mind would be

Talented player with good potential going cheap. We sell ourselves to him as a club that can give him plenty of game time, European football and a chance to catch the eye of the big clubs in England. We can show him our track record of improving players and getting them big money moves. We tell him we will sell him after 2 years all going well. To make this work for us we need him to sign a 4 year contract to maximise our fee.

What about a sell out clause. At the time when an outstanding player like VVD was going for £12million then anything over £15million would have seemed ridiculous. So not inserting a buy out clause would in hindsight have been the correct thing to do

If something like this happened them reneging on the deal could backfire on us.

Only guess work but it's the type of scenario that would make us very attractive to emerging talent

I could be wrong, but it seemed like you suggested that Edouard was bought to replace Dembele? That would leave us with two.

If Dembele left before the close of the window we would need to bring someone else in, especially with Griffiths struggles with his calf injuries.

 

did he not say last window or shortly after he signed in a interview he will see out his 4 years at celtic.....i think he will run down his contract and leave on a free with a big signing on bonus.....but who the * knows ...lol
