You don't go in with the first bid at asking price it's called haggling confident it will get done this week though.

Normally I want Pete to pay as little as we can for a signing. However, in this case, we should be generous as that will help hibs :giggle1:

1 year left on his deal they won't get more than 3m for him given we have just sold an established player in Armstrong for 7m to Southampton with a similar contract situation..Derby have been linked with him.

I wouldn’t want us to pay more than 2m for him, maybe 2.5 if they take Allan off our hands too!

Difference with Stuart is he had a very high profile season during the invincible and is an established international McGinn is just on the road to that the now, totally agree he is worth no more than £3m and that's the top end IMO, Lenny talking * when he said he was worth £5m

Completely different players. Stu was better at things and McGinn is better at others.

I would say that he is of a similar level we signed Brown from Hibs at, but my issue is we have the Brown that has had a decade of development in our squad just now. What game time is McGinn going to get whilst he's still here?

There may be some games where he'll be deployed beside him or in his place to give Brown a rest but ultimately he is not coming in to genuinely remove either Brown or Oli from their starting spot.

Let Brendan worry about picking the team he clearly wants him and if there is one thing Brendan can develop its Midfielders and Forwards.

So there is yer reason hibs are holding out for as much as they can "Hibs paid St Mirren a development fee and promised them 30% of any future transfer fee"

Brown wasn't guaranteed a starting spot when we signed him either though, and got played in different positions when required. I see the same happening with McGinn. Competition for places is healthy for everyone, and brown as good as he was last season, should still have been rested more imo.

If McGinn can do what Broony does domestically, then that rotation could be crucial for keeping our captain fresh for Europe and improve his longevity. They're very similar players but he will learn from the best if comes in to work with Brown + Brendan.

If John McGinn is the height of our ambition then i'm worried about what's to come for the rest of the window.
