I don't think having John McGinn charging about in midfield like a headless chicken is going to get us anywhere in Europe. Pass.

Have we not brought him home yet?

I like the fact he is splitting opinion with the support.

Much like when we were looking at Scott Brown when we signed him.

I think he would be a good signing.

No you won't , he might sign, but I don't believe a Hibs director told you that

Has he? I don't think he could be classed a decent signing yet

The same was said when we were signing victor waynama and we had four ‘better’ players already for the position in brown, Kayal, ledley and ki.

In fairness he wasn’t the worst signing

At a time where we were crying out for a CB. We're not crying out for a cm and I'm just saying kouassi would do much better from what I've seen... Domestically and in europe

Our midfield is more than solid domestically. We have kouassi who got * al game time aswell there, I don't think he will improve us further.. That's what our signings should be, cover or improvemetn

The same wasn't said tbh as we didn't see or hear of wanyama. We know a lot about McGinn he plays in our league and is not an upgrade on our current players. Wanyama is different gravy McGinn will not turn out like him. Wanyama was also thrown in at CB aswell at first

Compared with Compper our other January signing I would think he has proved decent. In fact of all the defenders bought by Brendan so far he seems to be the best value for money. I would think given the opportunity of getting our money back for him the majority would choose to keep him. I classed the signing as decent rather than good because of the short time he has been with us.

How would you class his signing?

Headless chicken, bull in a china shop etc. same criticisms that were leveled at Brown before (and after) we signed him. I'm not saying he'd be as good or important as Brown has been for us, but then how many of us knew Brown would be this important and for this long?

He's got the basic attributes to be a solid box to box midfielder at the moment, and still plenty of time to improve and mature as a player, who knows what he could be moulded into with the right coaching, think he's worth a punt and we should always be looking to have a core of the best scottish talent in our team.

100% agree there is a long way to go before we can say Hendry is decent.

Still don't know why we signed him.

I think we paid 1 million too much for Hendry. Back up player at best

Yes it was, if you read the Wanyama thread, you’ll see it mentioned quite a bit that the signing wasn’t needed because we already had strength and depth in that position.

I agree with your second point though, that victor was more of an unknown than McGinn. But doesn’t mean he can’t improve and hold down a regular spot in time.

I believe are other three Scottish centre midfielders Brown, Armstrong and McGregor have significantly improved under Brendan so why not McGinn

For me it’s definitely not a case of - is McGinn better than Brown, or would he walk into the team, - he’d be a good option, and the biggest thing is he’s kept improving.

Some Celtic fans wanted us to go for him when he was leaving St Mirren, - I remember him playing well against Wanyama and everyone freaking out.

I didn’t think he was ready then, but he’s got better and better.

I wouldn’t say he’s aggressive, or not as aggressive as I’d like, but he’s strong/powerful, and uses his body well, - Ntcham struggled against him in every game we played, and I think Oliver Ntcham could potentially be the best player in our team.

I could see McGinn playing left wingback for us, - Tierney played too many games last year, and Calvin Miller needs to go on loan, we need to see how go he can be, because like Ralston has proved recently, neither are close to being good enough, even as cover, for the Champions League.

I also think playing in a diamond suits John McGinn, and Brendan has been doing that, with a 3 behind.

Getting him on a Bosman in 6 months would be ideal, but for say £1.5 million and Allan, then I’d be pretty happy with that.

I feel he is being brought in as support and cover, and to shadow brown and learn from him ,eventually taking his role when he finishes .
Its not a glamour signing but in time and we are building for the future ,may prove a great bit of business for continuity.
This could have a good impact for away games in europe where we could become a tighter unit and harder to break through ,we lost a lot of goals and i can see this helping that particular area without losing to much as an attacking team .

If we sign McGinn we play him in centre mid where he plays * this shoe horning players into positions. Hayes could play LWB easily he used to play that for Aberdeen. But got to agree with you £1.5m - £2m tops plus Allan and that’s it not a penny more and I think we are being generous with £2m plus a player

Edit : need to shift a CM or two on also either perm or loan

No I agree about not just shoe-horning players in.
I fecking hate players that are jack of all trades and master of none.
If we’re playing a diamond though(which we have been) - Brown is at the bottom.
    That’s a done deal!
So on the left we have Tierney, and it’s been McGregor, instead of Sinclair.
So the point I made was I think he could cover both those positions.
He’s not good enough to play just in front of the defence, and dictate the game like Brown.
Scott Brown grew into that position though.
