With the amount of games we have to play throughout the season he'll get plenty of first team football if we sign him and Armstrong leaves. He'll be a good signing if the deal goes through.

What period's that??.....Allan's figures pretty impressive there......maybe we have another midfield maestro (no offence Paul) in our midst and we don't know it!!:fear:

Nothing tricky about it, if Celtic make a move for him he will jump at it. He'd be moving to his boyhood club, at least trebling his wages and get the opportunity to play under one of the best managers anywhere in terms of his record in developing young players.

You surely don't think he would pick the likes of a non-descript English Championship club over us because he'd be guaranteed more game-time initially?

  5. It's hard to say really, don't get me wrong I'd take him here for the right price, however whilst Ntcham and Brown are still going strong, McGinn might look at the effect that has had on Armstrong for playing time - yes there is likely more to it with Armstrong because of how he went about the contract renewal.

But it all depends on what he wants as a professional not a fan, as a pro will he want to sit around for 2 years waiting for either Brown to retire or Ntcham to leave and have it stifle the progression he's made so far. H Has already said it will take something really special for him to leave hibs, that could just be a little subtle wink at us or he could be saying that because he knows currently he's progressed to where he is at right now because he's getting everything he needs to do that at hibs.

He'd need to be patient, there's no doubt about that but he'd be insane to turn us down for a Championship team. Given it's a 60+ game season, he would absolutely get a chance in the team. I have a feeling Broony will start be used a little bit more sparingly than he has been used in the last 2 seasons, in order to prolong his career.

He isnt going to sit on the bench for two years.
Stupid to suggest. He will be challenging for a place and as and when he gets a chance in the team he will be hard to remove.

As if John McGinn would knock back coming here :giggle1:

Why is that even being discussed ?

  9. Fair enough brown is getting older, but right at this moment is McGinn an improvement on Brown or Ntcham? No he isn't. But in a weird sense now is our time to get him as he'd be cheap due to his contract status, if we don't do it now he's never a Celtic player.

Maybe it's a wee bit extreme on my end to suggest it could be 2 years before he could be considered as a "first name on teamsheet" so like I say, we are in a strange position that means he isn't a first team regular right now but if he's not signed now then he's never coming here.

I dont think you appreciate how many games we played last season.
This season we even have another CL qualifier to add to that potential total.
With armstrong potentially leaving we need another body in that position to give us depth aloowing for rotation to deal with injury, etc. Whats more is that if you remove Brown from out squad, we lose a lot of physicality.
Id imagine if he signed he will play 15 games minimum this season.

Some think he is up there with ntcham at the moment (which i dont think he is) and maybe if you look at the passing stats i previously listed and goals for the season then you could argue for that.
But mcginn represents the amoung the best young talent Scotland has to offer at the moment and i think we should sign him.

  11. I'd be happy with the signing, but I don't think it will happen.

not sure if our (Rodgers) interest is that great

McGinn is a good player no doubt about it and under Brendan could easily be moulded into Scott Brown's replacement. Imagine him with better player's around him think he would be cracking next to big Olivier and for me the two would boss any game domestically. However this is where the problem lies for many we already boss almost every game domestically as it is and if we want to improve in Europe we should aim higher and I can't help but agree with this.

I agree with the notion that we need to sign quality for europe. I can see why you would be apprhensive at this signing with that in mind. But he has continued to improve season after season.

Games that we didnt boss domestically this season were the ones against Hibs, the 4-0 to hearts and Killie.
where Mcgeouch and Mcginn were all over us, we seemed fatigued and sluggish against Hearts who had more energy on the day and Mulumbu put in quite a powerful performance for Killie.

I think having Mcginn in our squad can only benefit us.

We need a quality squad, not just a quality team to compete in Europe and domestically.
McGinn would get his chances whether it be as backup before and after European nights or actually featuring.
Could be worth 5 to 10 points domestically at the start of the season when we are juggling between the league and the Champions league.

I'd rather bringing him in the now to learn from brown than lose him to a championship side where if he has one good season we could never afford him. Plus he can fair ping a pass/shot wae that left foot of his.

He's also Scottish wich isn't a bad thing, knows the league and what it takes,we need to keep a core of scots in our team and develop around them as we have mostly done.
If he has anything about him in terms of development Brendan will bring it out him.

Reading through this thread is like going back in time and reading the scott brown thread and I suppose leigh Griffiths who gave both proven invaluable to us I will always support bhoys who pull on our shirt and certainly mcginn looks a player feel like * raise his game to new levels with us not just because rodgers is there but he will know its hard to stay in our team ref paddy and erik who were both unfortunate in terms of injuries but were mainstays so I think he will rise to the pressure seems very grounded and I like the idea of having a core group of homegrown players

He is probably the only player in scotland we dont have that I wouldnt mind us signing. He certainly held his own against our midfielder and he would get a fair share of games given Brown wont be able to play every game if we get into the champions league proper. Im usually underwhelmed when we sign players from within scotland but this would make sense to me.

I'd say Kipre and Cochrane could do well was us. More so Cochrane. Although he's only wit 16/17? he looks like he has brilliant technical ability as he's hard to get the ball off at times. Kipre is just a big fast monster of a *. ( probably a shiter boyata to compare him to someone)
